FBLA Chapter Ideas

Energize Your Meetings with Themes and Games
Many chapter meetings are all business and involve too much sitting and listening on the part of the members. Adding a theme and a teamwork or leadership game or games to your meeting takes a little extra preparation but leaves members looking forward to the next one (snacks help too).

Ideas for your next meeting:
  • Hawaiian Theme with Hula Hoop Circle
    • Members join hands in a circle and their ankles are tied to the member next to them.
    • A Hula Hoop is placed on the arm of the first member
    • Members have to work together to move the Hula Hoop around the circle without letting go of hands
    • Talk about how it takes the effort of every individual together as a team to keep the hoop in motion and complete the loop

  • Picture Perfect Theme with Pictionary or Play-doh Sculpting
    • Emphasize the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication sklls
    • Place members into teams of 5
    • Make five key words for them to draw or shape so each person has to participate in communicating
    • Have the first person from each group run to the front of the room and pick-up the first card.
    • When their team guesses the word, the next person runs to the front of the room
    • Continue the process noting the winning team
    • Officers should monitor each group for honesty and fairness
    • Be sure to take lots of pictures

  • Caring Community Theme with Cards for Nursing Homes
    • At a meeting that emphasizes community service opportunities use computers or paper to create greeting cards for your local nursing home.
    • This can be especially nice around the holidays

  • Beach Party Theme with Beach Ball Games
    • Teamwork and communication make the beach ball activity fun.
    • Place members in teams of 8
    • Give each team a ball and a marker
    • Ask members to sign their name to write a chapter goal on each panel of the ball and sign their names (you can hang these from the ceiling of your classroom to promote FBLA)
    • Team members should count how many times they can keep the ball in the air. The winning team gets a prize
    • Have officers monitor the teams

Get involved in the March of Dimes
All chapters in our region are located near March of Dimes Walks.  Getting involved in educating your community, raising money for the cause, or volunteering on the day of the walk are simple ways to get involved in serving your community.

    Ideas for your chapter:
    • Invite a March of Dimes Local Chapter Representative to be a guest speaker at your chapter meeting.
    • Show videos from the March of Dimes Team Youth Site.
    • Host an event to benefit March of Dimes.
    • Sell merchandise or paper shoes or shapes to hang on the wall around school. One school sold paper pumpkins with student's names in October and raised over $1,000
    • Collect a mile of pennies or even dimes at your school or in your community.
    • Educate young people about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by speaking at a middle school or high school.  The March of Dimes Team Youth Website has ideas to help you.
For more ideas, visit the Team Youth Website sponsored by the March of Dimes or the March of Dimes Page on the national FBLA Website.
