Energize Your Meetings with Themes and Games
Many chapter meetings are all business and involve too much sitting and listening on the part of the members. Adding a theme and a teamwork or leadership game or games to your meeting takes a little extra preparation but leaves members looking forward to the next one (snacks help too).
Ideas for your next meeting:
- Hawaiian Theme with Hula Hoop Circle
- Members join hands in a circle and their ankles are tied to the member next to them.
- A Hula Hoop is placed on the arm of the first member
- Members have to work together to move the Hula Hoop around the circle without letting go of hands
- Talk about how it takes the effort of every individual together as a team to keep the hoop in motion and complete the loop
- Picture Perfect Theme with Pictionary or Play-doh Sculpting
- Emphasize the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication sklls
- Place members into teams of 5
- Make five key words for them to draw or shape so each person has to participate in communicating
- Have the first person from each group run to the front of the room and pick-up the first card.
- When their team guesses the word, the next person runs to the front of the room
- Continue the process noting the winning team
- Officers should monitor each group for honesty and fairness
- Be sure to take lots of pictures
- Caring Community Theme with Cards for Nursing Homes
- At a meeting that emphasizes community service opportunities use computers or paper to create greeting cards for your local nursing home.
- This can be especially nice around the holidays
- Beach Party Theme with Beach Ball Games
- Teamwork and communication make the beach ball activity fun.
- Place members in teams of 8
- Give each team a ball and a marker
- Ask members to sign their name to write a chapter goal on each panel of the ball and sign their names (you can hang these from the ceiling of your classroom to promote FBLA)
- Team members should count how many times they can keep the ball in the air. The winning team gets a prize
- Have officers monitor the teams
