Information about our Youth Club
(Regina South Zone Fencing Club)

Fencing semesters run from September through December, and January through June. We practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15 pm to 9:00 pm (doors open at about 7:00 pm) at Campbell Collegiate.

Those interested in fencing can drop in at any session. If you decide to try the sport, we offer three introductory sessions (your choice of attending one or two sessions per week) for $25. If you choose to join after the introductory sessions, the fee for each semester is $200 per semester or $375 if you wish to pay for the whole year at once. Fees may be prorated for late entrants. The $25 three-session trial fee will be applied to either your semester or yearly payment.

There is an additional
fee of $125 per year for fencers who wish to compete in tournaments. This fee partially offsets our coach's travel costs, and our club's cost to register fencers in the provincial and national associations (which is required to compete in tournaments). With the added overall revenue, we plan to replace more equipment and expand our coaching.

To start, no equipment is required.  The club will provide gloves, masks, jackets and weapons.  If you wish to join the club full-time, you will be asked to buy your own glove at a cost of around $40.  You can continue to use club equipment and/or purchase your own (as time goes by most fencers will purchase some or all of their own equipment).

For the club sessions, you should wear shoes suitable for indoor sports activities, long sweats or pants (shorts are not recommended), and a t-shirt or other sporting top.

The club is for youth ages 11 through 17.  Beginners are welcome (everyone starts somewhere).

With respect to risk factors, injuries can occur.  This is a normal sporting activity and sprains, strains, bruises, etc. can and do occur.  Injuries caused by the weapons themselves are usually limited to small bruises from the impact.  The fencers are well protected by their equipment and NO ONE FENCES WITHOUT WEARING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT!   The weapons (foil, sabre and epee) do not have sharpened edges and are designed with blunted tips.
