Redwood Village is with in the Crossroads Redevelopment District and is therefore eligible for special funding forimprovements. We brought the need for improvements to Streamview drive to the attention of PAC and our city representatives. Both groups are enthusiastic about making improvements. Please join our events and discussions around this topic when you can. Hear are a few thoughts that came up durning our meeting with community members and Marti Emeralds staff in 2009.• Add traffic circles to the intersections to slow traffic • Move the traffic lanes to the center of the street • Add bike lanes to the new road • Keep parking space on the new road's edge • Add green space from the sidewalks to the new roadway in the center of the avenue • Add medians to the middle of the road for safety Streamview news For the latest news on our progress on the redevelopment of Streamview Drive check the entries below. May 3, 20011 Thomas Landre, Associate Engineer with the City of San diego, the Streamview Drive concept plans are currently in pre-design where they will be reviewed by other City departments in order to address possible issues before being submitted to final design. The City is currently preparing a concept proposal for the second round of funding for the Urban Greening Grant Program. The proposal will be submitted in mid June. If our proposal is selected we will be submitting a full application in the fall of 2011. We applied for this grant in the first round and were not one of selected projects. Since our submittal last year we have the approved concept plans, outreach and community support that will help us to complete successfully for the grant. March 8th, 2011 The Eastern Area Community Planning Committee (EACPC) voted unanimously in favor of the concept designs prepared by Platt/Whitelaw Architects for the redevelopment of Streamview Drive. Community members of Oak Park, Redwood Village and Streamview Drive have shown unprecedented support for action to be taken to improve Streamview Drive. More than 175 Redwood Village and Oakpark residents wrote letters in support of the project and more than 50 members have attended the last two EACPC meetings to show their support. The concept design will now move to the next phase of technical design. The City of San Diego has 400k already budgeted and set aside for the technical designs to be completed. This phase will take six to eight months. Many different sources of funding will be explored for funding of construction as the project moves from technical design to being “shovel ready”. The community will be included in this process and kept up-to-date as the project moves forward. Community members have been requesting that something be done to improve Streamview Drive for more than 30 years! The major areas of concern are the median blight, need for traffic calming measures to be implemented, lack of walkability, lack of bike lanes, poor public transit facilities, lack of trees and vegetation. Many concerns over parking have been raised by community members and addressed. The community members have been assured that the street will maintain current levels of parking. Residents have attended project workshops, meetings, conducted a walk audit, completed surveys and given input into the initial concept. An action team was formed of 3 residents from each section of Streamview Drive. Project updates have been posted to www.redwoodvillagecc.org <http://www.redwoodvillagecc.org/> and updates regularly communicated in newsletters. Special thanks to Councilmember Marti Emerald, Engineers Thomas Landre, Oscar Valdvieso and Julio Fuentes, Allison Whitelaw and to the Streamview Drive Action Team members, and Redwood Village and Oak Park community members who have all assisted in this effort. February 8th, 2011 Redwood Village residents showed up in force to support the Streamview Drive Redevelopment Plan at the Eastern Area Community Planning Committee (EACPC) meeting next Tuesday, February 8 at 7:00 pm. The meeting is held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 2725 55th st. San Diego, CA 92105 in the Parish Hall. There was a preliminary design presentation by Allison Whitelaw and the City of San Diego traffic engineers. Board Members asked question and then opened it up for public comment. Comments for the community were overwhelmingly positive. Over 20 people took the opportunity to ask questions and speak out in favor of the plan moving forward. The EACPC will vote on the plan at their next meeting. It is recommended that we show up again to show our support. November, 2010 At the November Redwood Village Community council meeting Alison Whitelaw of Platt/Whitlaw Architects, Inc. presented the proposed design for Streamview Drive to he community. After the presentation residents asked questions and offered feedback on the plan. A Motion was made by resident Cheryl Hughes as follows:
“that the RV community strongly support the
Streamview Drive Concept Design presented by Alison Whitelaw of PWA, Inc.
The motioned was seconded
by resident Denise Simon and passed unanimously with (100%) in agreement. This will help guide the future development and promote requests for further development and funding. A video outlining the efforts of the San Diego redevelopment Agency in the Crossroads redevelopment district was also shown.
October 14th, 2010 Support for the Streamview Drive Development Plan has been received from the community at large. The the Streamview subcommittee, RVCC, City representatives and architect firm have worked as a team to create a plan that has received widespread support form the community. July 5, 2010 Council Member Marti Emerald recently sent a letter to Streamview Drive residents announcing the application by TheCity of San Diego Engineering Department for a $1 million dollar grant. This grant will be used to address safety and aesthetic concerns along Streamview Drive. The announcement of recipients of the grant will be made in August. May 27, 2010 The City of San Diego Engineering applied for a Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities Program grant for Streamview Drive. Atttached at the bottom of this page is the grant in PDF format. April 27, 2010 The City of San Diego Engineering and Capital Projects will be applying for a Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities Program grant for Streamview Drive on April 28th. Atttached at the bottom of this page is the letter that the President of the RVCC, Anna Orzel-Arnita, wrote in support of the grant (rvletter of support.doc). The item was heard by the City Council yesterday and it was approved for the engineers to apply for the grant. For information see http://dockets.sandiego.gov/sirepub/pubmtgframe.aspx?meetid=600&doctype=Agenda March 22, 2010 The Streamview Drive Redevelopment committee meets to discuss next steps. Residents were invited to join the discussion at 7:00 pm at 5622 Streamview Drive. About 20 concerned community members along the Streamview corridor showed up to listen to a presentation from city representatives and the design firm contracted to study the project. Parking, traffic calming, traffic circles, bike lanes, walkability and drainage were all discussed. Commuinty member questions were answered and feedback was collected. These preliminary discussions will help t form future plans. March 6, 2010 Residents, community leaders and city project managers join together in a walking survey of Streamview Drive. Our mission is to identify areas for improvement in the infrastructure of the area. Survey volunteers filled out questionniares and sited problems as they walked the length of Streamview Drive. Walkability, safety, traffic flow, drainage, accessibility, were all considered and thoughts and observations were cataloged in the survey. The results of their work will be used in formulating a plan to redevelop the street. The Streamview Drive committee will meet at 7pm at the home of Cindy Lewis to discuss the survey and their next steps. Here are some of the photos taken during the survey: February 27th 2010 The walking survey of Streamview drive is postponed due to rain. February 16, 2010 We will conduct a walk audit of Stremaview Drive on Saturday, February 27 from 9:00 am to about 11:00 am. Please plan on attending. Your input is very important. We will meet at the corner of Streamview Drive and 54th Street and we will walk from Streamview Drive and 54th Street to Streamview Drive and College Avenue. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring water and a clip board if you have one. I've attached a copy of the walk audit invitation to this email as well. Feel free to make copies and remind your neighbors as we get closer to the date. Feb 13, 2010 A Streamview Drive survey was delivered to all the homes on Streamview Drive on Saturday Feb 13. The survey is due back by March 1. The postage is paid. Please complete and return your surveys and talk with your neighbors to make sure they turn in their surveys as well. Feel free to make additional copies if needed. November 2009 Streamview committee volunteers are identified for all the project areas. The city is notified that we are ready to proceed with the project. October 2009 The Community Council President requested of the community 9-12 Streamview Drive Community members to be on the Streamview Drive Working Group. We need 2-3 from each section of Streamview Drive. The Traffic Engineering Department has the PO request in for the 250K set aside for the design consultants for Streamview Drive. Once the PO is issued they will select the design firm (which will happen in the next few weeks) and begin community outreach. This is really significant as any project cannot start until design is completed and it's "shovel ready". Once it is "shovel ready" it opens up more opportunity for funding. Streamview Drive Survey - Cindy Lewis put together a survey that is currently being reviewed and edited by our traffic engineers. We should have it finalized this week. Once finalized, we will need to deliver it to all the homes on Streamview Drive. (Delivery volunteers needed)The survey will have several questions, a sign up to get involved and find out more, and will have a postage paid return envelope. Januaray, 2008 The city releases a traffic report outlining the issues with Streamview Drive. The report reveals that Streamview is a dangerous road for motorist and pedestrians. This helps to fuel the campaign to redesign the street. You can download and read the entire report from the attached file below May 6, 2003 The City of San Diego's 1,031-acre Crossroads Redevelopment Project Area and Redevelopment Plan were established by the City Council on May 6, 2003 (Ordinance No.19174 N.S.). The focus of the Redevelopment Plan is twofold: to revitalize the properties along El Cajon Boulevard, University Avenue, Streamview Drive and College Avenue and the residential neighborhoods of Chollas Creek and Fox Canyon; and to develop the Resource-Based Parkland at Chollas Park. |

It is great to see so much progress being made on this issue. Good job Streamview team.
