Thursday, Feb. 11, 7-8pm @ 2060 VLSB: Join the ARC@Cal Club as we kick off the Spring 2010 semester! We'll be presenting guest speaker Jimmie Briggs, a human rights and youth advocate currently working with the Red Cross to share his international experiences with students around the Bay Area, as well as discuss the Red Cross' Exploring Humanitarian Law Program. Briggs is a highly acclaimed journalist and writer who has brought to light the lives of children both enlisted in and affected by war. He is currently director of the Man Up campaign, a youth movement against violence against women.
Afterwards, learn about the values, history, and goals of the American Red Cross, how join as an official member, the roles of our various lines of service, and details on upcoming social activities and service events! |

As many of you may already know, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti and as of Jan 22nd, has reportedly killed 11,481 people, leaving an estimate of 250,000 injured and homeless. Now is the time for the Berkeley campus to unite and help change the lives of hundreds-of-thousands of victims of the recent Haiti disaster. The American Red Cross @ Cal will be joining up with organizations from the UC Berkeley Service Board, Health Coaltion and various other clubs on campus to throw a Haiti Initiative Relief Week, which will last from Friday January 29th to Friday February 5th. Not only will all organization be tabling on Sproul the whole week to collect donations (clothing, money, food, etc); there will also be a Benefit Concert on Feb. 4th from 7-9 PM in Pauley Ballroom and Solidarity Rally on Feb. 5th from 11 - 3 PM on the steps of Upper Sproul.

The American Red Cross is playing a large roll in disaster response and recovery in Haiti following the destruction by the earthquakes. Get the facts and updates at http://newsroom.redcross.org/, and donate to the Haiti relief effort here. Mobile donors can text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross. 100% of the donations will support relief efforts in Haiti. |

Please join ARC@Cal for a Volunteer Appreciation Brunch in honor of all the hard work everyone has put in this semester! This brunch is dedicated to YOU. From attending meetings to coming out to socials, and helping out around the community, we just want to say, thank you!
We will have food catered and some really fun and exciting activities to really bring this semester to an end. We will have raffle prizes--none of which will include a stress ball and you will get a chance to mingle with your peers.

Our first general meeting for the Spring 2009 semester will be on Thursday, February 5th from 7-8 PM in 101 Moffitt.
Bring your friends and come by for some food and to learn how you can
get involved with our upcoming events and activities that our
respective committees have planned this semester. To get a head start,
feel free to download the Volunteer Registration form appended at the
end of this post and turn it in during the meeting. We looking forward
