Ms. Melina's Classes

Week 10

We all heard the same directions... did we make the same patterns?

Game of the week: Say What?

This game points out in a visual way how what we say and what other people hear are not always the same.  I got the idea for this game from the Gorilla exhibit at the National Zoo- they have it set up there.

Sit back to back with a partner.  Each of you have a set of identical wooden shape pieces.  One of you is the talker, one the listener.  The talker makes a picture or pattern with the shapes and tries to explain to the listener how to make the exact same shape.  No peeking!  When each team is done, compare the designs and see how accurate your communication cycle is, then switch roles.

Another way to play this is to sit in a circle of 4-6 players, all back to back. In this set up, there is one talker and five listeners.

After the game is done, discuss some situations where what you said is not what was heard, or visa versa.

There is no Riddle of the week... I forgot to look one up.  If you have one to share, leave it on the comment section of this page!
