Using cumulative weekly assignments, students are exploring a specific theme across time. Theme examples include architecture, shapes, dance, purple, and intentional deception. This page showcases the work of Kayla M., whose theme is architecture. I chose architecture because it's a way people can express themselves, a way to put the architect's dream on the planet, like a little red dot on a big piece of paper. Something to make the world more unique, and that's what every person in the world needs. I think architecture from every time in history is so beautiful. The Pompidou Center is located in Paris, France. It was made at the request of president Georges Pompidou. He wanted a place in which different artistic disciplines could be brought together like theater, music, cinema, books, and the spoken word. He announced a contest for the design of the center. The wining architects were Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. The center opened on January 31, 1977. The Great Wall of China is a 3rd century wonder of the world. It is a a great show of architecture. The sheer size of the great wall covers almost two thirds of the country. From east to west it is 4,160 miles and you can see it from space. I chose the Statue of Liberty because it shows the friendship between France and the USA. The statue started as an idea in Edouard De Laboulay’s head.He and other engineers started building little statues as a reference then moved on to the big one. After it cameto the states in 1886 it started to look green. The green was chemical reaction called oxidation it happened because the salt water and metal reacted with each other and turned green. It’s an old statue, that has had repairs in the past butstill stands today and forever. Did you know that there are actually three statues of liberty, like in the movie National Treasure 2? One is in New York, one is in The Luxembourg Gardens, and the other in Swan Ally, France. So we don’t have the one and only statue of liberty, but we do have the only 151 feet and one inch statue of liberty. Click here for more Statue of Liberty factoids. |
