The teens at Homeschool Out of the Box,
secular co-op in Norfolk, VA, have been studying U.S. history in
unique way. Their class, "From Rebels to Founders: A Journey to the U.S.
Constitution," explores Colonial history and specifically our founding
documents. In addition to wearing historically accurate costumes, preparing Colonial foods, translating the U.S. Constitution into modern English, and creating profiles of important Colonial figures, they have written their own constitution, a proposed charter document for the co-op. A few examples of policies they envision implementing: electing administrators, being able to try classes before committing, direct access to co-op administrators to raise issues without including parents, and more. Finally, students created video presentations on the history and consequence of the U.S. Constitution.
