Honesty

I honestly believe that as a result of it I have felt more things, more deeply...

had more experiences, more intensely...

loved more, and have been more loved...

laughed more often for having cried more often...

appreciated more the springs, for all the winters...

This quote is from Kay Redfield Jamison's book The Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness.   In this book, she describes her experiences with bipolar disorder from her dual perspective as both a psychiatric expert in manic depression and a sufferer of the disease. While each individual has their own unique set of circumstances and experiences when it comes to themselves and this disease, I have to say I am thankful that my history with bipolar disorder has not been as extreme as hers.

I have been living with bipolar disorder for 2 years. While I still struggle occasionly with this disease, I am incredibly thankful that my diagnosis and successful treatment came very quickly. I was diagnosed in the fall of 2007 when I was a student at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It was my senior year.
