FREE LAOS AND VIETNAM GPS MAPS

    Auto Routing Maps VERSION 2008 R3
    2 NOV 2008

    • Lots of work done and detailed streets and POIs added around Vientiane and Vang Vieng thanks to contributions from Gavin, asiaGPS and offroadlanna 
    • Added and realigned streets and highways around North East Thailand bordering Vientiane - detailed streets for Nong Khai and Udon Thani including new POIs - mostly thanks to contributions from asiaGPS.
    • Thanks to Ryo's initial early work, rcmaps have converted many Vietnam city maps into a fully auto routing and street searchable state.  
    • This includes:-
    • Hanoi (with street names in most parts of the city)
    • Vinh
    • Hue
    • Danang
    • Vung Tau
    • Mai Chau
    • Added and adjusted alignment of highways around  Northern Laos thanks to tracklogs from Peter Hendricks
    • Improved waterways data for Vietnam including more accurate shoreline data
    • Improved waterways data for Laos for major river and lake polygons

    ** FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS PLANNED ** 
    • Very detailed 20m contour lines/topo maps for entire Indo China nearly completed (Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar)
    • This is a huge piece of work and will be a huge download, we are still evaluating options to host these files
    • Ho Chi Minh City map completed into auto routing state  
      • requires hundreds of hours work - hoping for help from other experienced mappers joining this project

    TOPO only MAPS Version 2008 R2

    • Reorganised and split map tiles extensively to enable community mapping effort
    • This mapset only consists of CONTOUR / TOPO LINES, please download separate mapset for roads and POI map at http://www.asiagps.org/community/index.php
    • It is expected that a major revision of contour and topo lines will occur sometime in future using more accurate SRTM data.  If you have experience or data for these areas, please contact us and either share your data (in mp format preferable) or assist us in a community mapping effort at http://www.asiagps.org/community/index.php

    •  Reorganised and split map tiles extensively to enable community mapping effort
    • This mapset DOES NOT contain CONTOUR LINES anymore, please download separate mapset
    • Added detailed Vientiane City map  - thanks to tracklogs from asiaGPS and Gavin (from http://www.asiagps.org/community/index.php)
    • Added and adjusted alignment of highways from Phonsavan to Sam Neau (Northern Laos) thanks to Offroadlanna
    • Lots more POIs added to Vientiane thanks to asiaGPS
    • Added in detailed street map of Hoi An in Central Vietnam HWY map thanks to kind contribution from Ryo Nakagawara
    • Future planned enhancements - Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay, Hue, Danang, Vinh etc (not necessarily in that order!)
    • More streets added to Vientiane, Luang Prabang etc - If you have any requests, please let me know
    • Replaced Laos walkways and trails with more accurate data 
    • Added State/Provincial boundaries in Laos map
    • Added National Parks in Laos map
    • Added Urban areas in Laos map
    • Replaced rivers and waterways in Laos map with more accurate data

    Major improvements and enhancements to road maps
    • Maps are now Global Indexing capable - meaning you can search for streets regions from your GPS and Mapsource easily
    • Most importantly searching on Garmin Nuvis, Zumos and newer Streetpilots work great whereas it didn't work on Nov 2007 release
    • Significantly updated streets and highways in most parts of Laos thanks to tracklogs I collected myself as well as kind users at Malsingmaps.com in particular  thanks to robinowyong, nadainn, cflai, chetchew and thanks also to Rotweiler who provided some initial feedback to this project earlier last year
    • Added in Vietnam coastline
    • Added in a couple of thousand POIs in Laos and Vietnam - mostly accommodation, tourist spots and most importantly fuel stops - some fuel stops are nothing more than stalls by side of the highway selling fuel in 2Ltr soft drinks plastic bottles - but hey if you're running low, take what you can get!!!
    • Added in some detailed street maps around some cities such as Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Savannakhet, Pakxe, Thakhek, Phonsavan, Can Tho and Hanoi.
