I was born in Teufen, Switzerland. At ETHZ in Switzerland I studied Mechanical Engineering and obtained my degree in 2003, majored in micro- and nanotechnology and biomedical technology. I received my Ph.D. in Microsystems and Microelectronics from EPFL, Switzerland (2006). From 2006 to 2007 I worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT, USA, and then from 2007 to 2008 at ETHZ, Switzerland. As a Postdoctoral Researcher I was engaged in the group of Juan G. Santiago at Stanford University, USA, from 2008 to 2009. I joined Illumina, Inc. in 2009, which company is ranked #1 in Forbes 25 Fastest-Growing Technology Companies in America (link). The same year I moved back to Switzerland and started at the CSEM Nanomedicine Division, which company creates a dymanic link between research and high-tech industry.
