Rocky Bayou Christian Academy is pleased to extend a special congratulations to Brittany Tiller and Eddie Owens, III, who were named School Winners for the prestigious Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. To be eligible for this award, students must display academic aptitude, athletic talent and community leadership.  The Wendy’s High School Heisman program, awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, celebrates the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom.  Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the top award in college football, the WHSH award is known for being the most prestigious award at the high school level. The award encourages future leadership by recognizing well-balanced lifestyles at an early age. The school winners were selected by the WHSH program from all school applicants from Rocky Bayou Christian Academy.

Brittany and Eddie were selected as School Winners based on the following accomplishments:

Edward Owens, III, is a student in Track Three (Special Services Program).   Eddie has excelled in our program and has earned a 3.68 GPA.  He is involved with the Northwest Florida Track Club, and he has been active on our Football and Weightlifting teams, lettering in both. Eddie is also very involved in his church,   First Baptist Church of Mary Esther, where he participates in the annual “Thirty Hour Famine” to help raise community awareness.  Eddie is also a Billy Bowlegs volunteer and has been employed by McDonald’s for a couple of years.

Brittany Tiller, a member of the Executive Board of the Student Government, serves as the prefect of our high school social activities.  With the help of her assistant prefect, she has organized Homecoming and every other social event on the high school calendar.  She is a good student in the Academy, having earned a 3.46 GPA and the test score needed to qualify for the Medallion Level of the Bright Futures Scholarship program. Brittany is also very active in our extra-curricular program as a two year leader of FCA and a member of Beta Club.  Brittany is a varsity athlete, having earned the NWF All Area softball player of the year award for her catching and batting skills and has also lettered in varsity soccer, swim and cross country.  Brittany is very involved in missions work, both in and out of country.  She has been on six mission trips in three years, mostly to help out in Haiti.

“Brittany and Eddie are future leaders and will represent their school well in the next phase of judging,” said Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Memorial Trophy and Wendy’s High School Heisman program spokesperson.  “I’m proud to be involved with an award that embodies the spirit of the Heisman tradition of hard work, dedication and an outstanding record both on and off the field.”

“All our applicants have shown throughout their high school careers that they embody the Wendy’s High School Heisman lifestyle,” said Dr. Michael L. Mosley.  “This award is the perfect way to celebrate their achievements and showcase the outstanding talent at Rocky Bayou Christian School.”

For more information or to track a student’s progress through the competition, please log on to www.wendysheisman.com or call 1-800-205-6367.  The names of all applicants and school winners will be posted on the Wendy’s High School Heisman Web site in early October.

Created in 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman program has celebrated youth excellence for 14 years.  The program consists of six stages – applicants, school winners, state finalists, state winners, national finalists and national winners.  Entries are initially evaluated by ACT Assessment during the Applicant, State Finalist and State Winner phases and then passed on to a distinguished panel of judges. Known for the ACT college entrance exam, ACT is a non profit organization offering educational measurement and research services.

Twelve National Finalists are invited to participate in Heisman weekend festivities during an all-expense paid trip to New York City on Dec. 12–14.  ESPN2 will feature all 12 National Finalists during the Wendy’s High School Heisman Awards Ceremony, which airs on Dec. 14.
