Situated high atop Bluff Point overlooking magnificent Kachemak Bay and Lower Cook Inlet, your private cottage gives you a window on the world. Watch ravens as they play on the winds and updrafts from one of the best viewing places for these birds in all of Alaska.  Under ideal conditions there may be literally hundreds of ravens all diving, barrel rolling, and chasing each other across the sky in front of you. As suggested by the name, there actually is a raven roost on the face of the bluff right below the cottage where these tricksters come back every evening to settle in for the night. You may also see dozens of bald eagles from here, and the interplay between these two species is non-stop. Not to mention the stunning ocean vista which provides a panoramic 180 degree sweep of our portion of the "Ring of Fire", rafts of sea otters or sea birds on the water,  and possibly a few whales too.

Ravens Roost Cottage is ideally suited for the adventure traveler looking to access the myriad wilderness opportunities that exist in or around the Kachemak Bay vicinity. Take your pick of options: from bear viewing in Katmai National Park across Cook Inlet;  to sea kayaking the pristine waters of Kachemak Bay State Park; or hiking / mountain biking the Rocky River trail from Jakolof Bay to Windy Bay. You can spend the day tide pooling or walking deserted beaches, or go looking for rare pelagic seabirds and eiders out on the water. The possibilities for adventure are nearly limitless. Spend a day or a week at Ravens Roost Cottage and use it as your base while you see one of North America's finest outdoor settings - Homer, Alaska.

The cottage itself is comfortable and self contained. Although it is ideal for a couple or a small family, two couples might also find it well suited for their needs. For sleeping arrangements, there is one full-size bed, and the living area has a full-size foldout futon couch. The kitchen - living area is well equipped and has a bookshelf CD / MP3 capable stereo , as well as high speed wireless internet. Bath room area includes a large shower and 100% cotton linens.

Your hosts (Charlie and Laurie) are both lifelong biologists. As for myself, I'm recently retired from the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game. I have spent the past 30 years working with all kinds of birds and fish, but hold a particular interest in the corvids and birds of prey. As for Laurie, she has a similar background and is currently a biologist at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge here in Homer. Between the two of us, we should be able to answer any fish, plant, or wildlife questions you can think of!

If you are interested in spending a day on the water, arrangements can be made to accommodate you. Although our specialty is eco-tourism, for those interested in fishing we would be happy to provide recommendations for some of the best boats and charter captains in the Homer area.
