The person behind RANDAU Bakery & Cafe

Assalammualaikum & Greetings!

My name is Mas Atika, happily married and I am a mother of three great kids - Aiman, Ameer & Aisyah.

I love drawing, creating and making any creative works using my hands.  I enjoy seeing a raw material turned into some nice product.  Thus, the art of cooking and baking have always been a passion for me.

It's all started at home, thanks for my beloved late mother for giving me an early introduction to the kitchen works.  My only formal learning in this culinary arts was in Sekolah Tun Fatimah, where I had my Home Science class from Form 1 to Form 3. And I am proud to tell that I scored A1 for that subject in SRP! :-)

I did my BSBA in Management and Marketing in University of Missouri - St. Louis.  While at the States, I learned some Western dish from fellow friends, and showed off my cooking talent during festive occasions ;-).  I even made some pocket monies during the fasting month by selling packed food such as fried rice and 'mee bandung'!

Shortly after returning to Malaysia in late 1996, I followed my husband, Munir to stay in his hometown Bintulu, Sarawak.  We run an IT company.  Over 10 years in Sarawak, I got to learn the local dish like 'umai', laksa Sarawak and the ever famous Kek Lapis Sarawak.  After understanding the basic formulation of preparing the cakes, I revised the recipe and started to make my own designs. The Kek Lapis Sarawak is very challenging, but it gave me such a great satisfaction to see my own creation!  I brought back the cakes to West Malaysia for my family, relatives and friends. Everyone loved the cakes and many started to order.

In the beginning, my maid help me with the baking whenever I breastfeed the baby.  As more orders came in, especially to cater the Hari Raya orders, I had to hire people to help and my supportive hubby, Munir bought me a bigger mixer and freezer.  It was a home-based business and we had to courier the cakes to West Malaysia.

End of 2007, we moved to Kota Warisan, Sepang as the IT company expands.  Since my Kek Lapis Sarawak has its own market, we felt that we should set up a bakery and market our products properly.  Thus, a Bakery & Cafe was inspired, an extended scope of baking, and inclusive of serving food and drinks as well.  I hope to share my passions and enjoyment towards baking and cooking with everyone at RANDAU Bakery & Cafe.

To everyone (you know who you are!) who has been supporting me unconditionally, thank you very much.  I love all of you.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Eika
