CARMEN "CHIQUI" LINARES

Carmen Linares was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico from a family of theater artists. Her first dance instructor was her own aunt Luisa Navas, a ballerina and Spanish classical dancer. Carmen continued studying dance with the director of the Ballet de San Juan and later in New York with the Joffrey Ballet School and the School of Balanchine. The Puerto Rican government awarded her a scholarship to pursue her studies in Spain with La Quica, Regla Ortega, and Enrique el Cojo, among others. She has toured Europe, the US, South America and Japan. Carmen has trained with such talented dancers as Andre Eglevsky, Lupe Serrano, Merche Esmeralda, Rosa Merced, Hector Zaraspe, and many more. When her sons started school, she decided to dedicate herself fully to teaching dance, rather than performing. She has partnered with distinguished artists such as Antonio Santaella, Miguel Sandoval, and the late Antonio Gades. Over the years, Carmen has led various dance troupes including Compania de Arte Espanol and DanzaHispana and has given numerous workshops across the country.
JOSE "EL PATRIARCA" LINARES
Jose Linares was born in Madrid. His mother was a singer and his father, Jose Cepero, was a famous singer from Jerez. He started his professional career as a guitarist at the age of 11. Jose has toured Europe, Africa, the US, the Caribbean Islands, and Canada. He has had the honor of playing for Aristotle Onassis, John F. Kennedy, and the Ed Sullivan Show. Jose has taught guitar in private schools and was artistic director/co-owner of Compania de Arte Espanol. He has given many workshops throughout the United States.
Stephanie Santos
Stephanie Santos, a San Antonio native, began dancing at the age of five. She was introduced to the art of flamenco and Mexican folklorico and began taking classes with the Guadalupe Dance Academy.She remained with the GDA seven years and in that time, she was given the opportunity to take workshops with several maestros from Mexico, and became an apprentice for the Guadalupe Dance Company. She joined Academia de Arte Flamenco to take classes with La Chiqui and in 2008 and received the opportunity to travel to Spain to continue her knowledge and passion of flamenco. Today, Stephanie performs regularly at España- Bar de Tapas. Stephanie is currently a psychology major at UTSA, and is aspiring to be a child psychologist, specializing in helping children with learning disabilities. Being a Spain “aficionada” she hopes to one day establish a learning center there while, of course, expanding her knowledge of flamenco.
