Society of Midwest Contesters

Name here is Scott. I have been an amateur radio operator (ham) since 1991. My father, WA9CGN, had wanted me to get my ticket for many years. I spent many hours with him watching Field Day with W9REG, Tippecanoe Amateur Radio Association. I also listened to him work DX on 6m AM for many years. Word on the street is my first words were 'CQ DX'. Since 6M AM was well known as a TVI generator I am sure I listened to him thru the TV.

From the beginning I was interested in DXing and Contesting. I am not much of a rag-chewer so if you catch me in a long QSO it is rare.

I have worked in IT at Purdue University since 1982. Once I got my ticket I was quickly working on getting the radio and computer to work together. Unfortunately at that time daily logging on computers was not a 'big thing' so I would have to manually take my contest logs, I was using TRLog for contests, and enter them into the paper logs. Due to many factors this meant that many QSO records were not kept. Now as I am looking back I see many big gaps in my logs. Some of these may be difficult to get again (VK0, 3Y0, etc). But that will keep my DX Chase alive.

You can see on the DXCC pages where I currently stand (depending on when you see this and when I have updated it).

I achieved 5BDXCC in May of 2019 (Certificate #9452) with endorsements for 12m, 17m, and 30m. Still working on 6m and 160m.

I have earned DXCC Challenge at the 1500 level as of May 2022.

I achieved 5BWAS in July 2020 (Certificate #3749) with endorsements for 12m, 17m, and 30m. Still working on 6m and 160m.

I also have the ARRL Triple Play award for confirming all 50 States on Phone, CW, and Digital. For digital I only counted confirmations for RTTY and PSK (no FTx).

Software:

For software I would love to go Linux but I have not found software that does what I need in that area, so I am stuck on Windows for the time being.
