Go Ahead and Stop That .com

Because you, my friend, are starting to sound like an idiot.

You've been sent here by a well-meaning friend. Or maybe a blog comment. Why?

Because you're using a term that kind of makes you sound like an idiot. Luckily, it's easy to fix.

Just stop putting the phrase "Go ahead and" in front of every verb. It makes you sound silly. For instance:

  • I'm going to go ahead and drive to Florida.
  • I went ahead and took the pill.
  • Why don't you go ahead and call me.

Just say you're going to drive. Or you took the pill. Or someone should call.

Saying "Go ahead and" in front of every verb makes you sound like an uneducated simpleton.

Listen for people using it from now on. And help spread the word.

This unfortunate phrase actually began as a joke. A funny joke on the movie Office Space, where a main character says things like "So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great."

But here's the thing.

That was a movie.

Nobody intended you to start talking like this moron.
