RUEMS and Rescue 9 went over to the Dedmon Center tonight to provide stand-by medical services for the first RU Men's Basketball game of the season against the Naval Academy.  The RUEMS crew had a great time watching RU earn their first victory of the season and is looking forward to standing-by at the next game against Lynchburg (Tuesday, November 17th).  We would like to give a big thanks to all who came out to participate and help get ready for the stand-by, and congratulations to the RU Men's basketball team for their victory!

RU EMS in Action!

posted ‎‎Oct 20, 2009 2:14 PM‎‎ by Stephen Holman

During the weekend of October 17th, RU EMS was very busy providing stand-by medical services for both the RU Rugby game and the Flo-Rida concert.  RU EMS sent Rescue 9 with a full crew down to the Rugby Field to provide medical support to all of the athletes and bystanders for both games.  After the Rugby games, Rescue 9 and Rescue 10 went over to the Dedmon Center to provide stand-by medical support for all attendees and staff at the Flo-Rida concert.  RU EMS strategically placed pairs of personnel around the concert area in order to ensure the most ample coverage possible, complete with two separate triage areas.  A special thanks to all those who came out to help ensure proper staffing for both stand-by events!

Successful Training!!!

posted ‎‎Oct 14, 2009 7:19 PM‎‎ by Aidan Vigil   [ updated ‎‎Oct 15, 2009 12:26 PM‎‎ by Zach Beckner ]

This past Saturday, October 10 RU EMS hosted a full scale training exercise for members.  Four crew chiefs in training had to each manage an entire crew and EMS call simulated in Washington Hall.  The training was a success in that it gave a realistic look to not only to our training crew chiefs, but also to all of our members new and old alike.  Each unit ran two calls: (a) a simulated patient who had fallen and hurt their head (b) a simulated patient who had given blood earlier in the day and fainted.  An additional feature to this training was that each crew chief had to drive to the scene of the call while on film; each patient contact was also filmed.  These videos will surely prove useful as a good review tool and will hopefully help to provide insight to how we operate on our calls.

Special thanks to Washington Hall RA / EMS member Julie Kaye who was indispensable in setting up the training in Washington Hall and helping to find actors.  Additional thanks to the actors who participated and to Radford City EMS Medic Travis Webb for coordinating on their part.

posted ‎‎May 24, 2009 1:10 AM‎‎ by Zach Beckner

After a long hard school year RU EMS will be inservice only for schedule campus events.  During this period we have many goals in which we aim will continue to make the agency successful in the future.  Be sure to keep checking up to see any new posting of what changes are going on.

Also we have been overwhelmed with the amount of hits we have had on the site.  Thanks to Google Analytics we can track visitors to the site.  This really lets us know that our site is getting out to people, and we are truly sharing information about RU EMS worldwide!

We wish all the Graduates of 2009 good luck in the future, and everyone else a great summer break!
