Programs/Activities

Our summer activities included a great Bat House building project both with our members and their families . The bat houses were sent home with the builders who live in the surrounding states such as Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and of course, Virginia. Twenty bat colonies now have an opportunity to move into these high class digs.  An educational program consisting of a PowerPoint slide show and video describing the need and benefits of bats was presented at the general membership meeting that evening.

Our outreach program later assisted members of the local Cub Scouts Pack 702 in the building of their own bat houses. The Chapter donated the materials to the scouts to build 18 more bat houses. The educational program was presented to the scouts by our President, Russell Alls.

The slideshow below shows our members having a great time constructing the bat houses on our August 2008 meeting day.

Building Bat Houses

We kicked off our 2009 season with a great project where we made a couple dozen bird houses. There are many Bluebirds in the park that we hope will take advantage of the new digs. The project spanned a couple meetings where we assembled the houses one month and painted and decorated the houses the next. We had about a dozen members and several kids participating. If you have never joined in one of our projects please come and help us out. Please enjoy the slideshow below.

We have done many road cleanup activities this summer. If you have never participated in one of these please join us for fun and exercise.
Also the kids are seen participating in the Izaak Walton League coloring books.
