1560s Italian Gown

Time Period: 1550-1560

Materials: Copper Dupioni Silk

Pattern: Toile, and shape based off of Elenora Di Toledo's side back laced gown.

I decided to make my mother a wonderful new gown since she's lost so much weight and I'm so proud of her. This means none of her garb fits anymore! I want it to have a wow factor, and nothing says wow like silk dupioni. Yes, we could go on about how it's not period, or could be period. But my mother doesn't care overly about authentic details like that, and she loves bright and warm autumn colors. I'm going to go for Mother's Day being the deadline on this one.

I bought this great fabric.

It's beautiful...but not sure it's exactly what I was looking for. I was going for copper. This is shot dupioni silk in red orange and dark green. Dark green? Really? That's too funky for what I was going for.

I'll be returning it, and getting this one. The site says it's "Cross threads are rust and sienna brown". We'll see how close the color turns out to be.

I really love the trim placement of the Eleanora gown. Here's some ideas for the trim. I want something with red, less metallics, and rich looking.

I can't decide if this design is too modern. But I think it's beautiful.

This is gorgeous, and more of a period feel. Though now that I put these both next to the fabric swatch, they look too overpowering. I'll have to wait till I see the fabric in person.
