This where I put my stuff what's more permanent than my blags.
Quick Links (Not in order) | New Stuff:I started a new page which may become a series... A bit about me:I'm just a regular guy, you know. I'm kind of outdoorsy and stuff. I grew up in the 80's and 90's in rural (that's a funny word) Northwestern Pennsylvania, but I've spent the last 8 years as kind of a nomad traveling all over the country. I did my year in Alaska and am not totally opposed to the idea that I might end up back there in a more permanent situation. Right now, I'm living mostly in the Seattle/Tacoma, Washington area. I currently work as an IT infrastructure technician - installing, terminating, and testing the low voltage cabling for voice and data networks in commercial installations. My plan is to eventually go back to school for a Comp Sci degree and get involved in cutting edge computer development. I used to program a lot in C, C++, and various other languages, but I've let that skill atrophy over the last several years. I have been playing with Linux for the past 10 years or so and just recently got into FreeBSD. My evaluation of FreeBSD basically goes something like this: "It's like linux, but less schizophrenic." Where the GNU/Linux OS is a conglomeration of many parts developed by many separate groups, the FreeBSD base OS is maintained by a single, well organized group of people. And it shows in the quality of the product. The main advantage that Linux has is that it's more supported by commercial developers - mainly commercial hardware developers like Intel. But, FreeBSD has a linux compatibility layer which allows it to run pretty much any linux software (drivers?). I haven't played with FreeBSD enough yet though... I still use MS Windows just because it comes pre installed on pretty much every computer and a lot of commercial software is still written exclusively for Windows. It's starting to get better though... companies are releasing more and more stuff for Linux, etc. And many open source projects are starting to get awesome enough to rival their commercial competitors. By the way, I'm not totally anti-Microsoft. I just happen to think that much of their software is inferior and I don't have to put up with it. Tech Articles:
