About

I am a research and development scientist and one of the founders of Biovotion AG - Swiss medical device company, based in Technopark Zürich. Biovotion has developed a wearable multisensor system which is robust enough to continuously measure heart rate, arterial blood oxygenation and other parameters under daily life conditions. I am often wearing the device myself and monitor my vitals. Some of those can be found in my blog. In my academic life I have been with Soft Condensed Matter group at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland and before that I received my Ph.D. from Chair of Optics at Saratov State University, Russia.

My scientific interests cover relatively broad area, but my primary focus is biomedical optics. I am convinced that the field of biomedical engineering has extremely bright prospects and optical methods of diagnostics is one of the most promising branches. I am also interested in general dynamic light scattering methods and laser speckle imaging techniques. Relying on the power of computer modelling I do not miss an opportunity to use it for the simulation of light propagation in any kind of turbid media. I have also made some simulation of social networks and their community structure inspired by similarities of phenomena happening in the soft matter and social systems.

Results of my scientific activities are reflected in Publications.

I am not only polishing lenses and holding patients hands but also doing a lot of programming and I can say that I really enjoy it. Although I am far from being professional software engineer, I have written a huge amount of code for various scientific and industrial projects. And what makes it even more entertaining, there are parts of it that I am not ashamed of.

And finally the most important part of my life is my beautiful family: wife Irina, son Artemiy and daughter Stanislava with whom I am happy to spend all my free time.
