Professionals WithIn Travel-- Los Angeles (Formerly Professional Women in Travel)  is a networking organization for women and men  actively engaged only in the sale and promotion of travel.  Its objective is to exchange ideas on travel promotion and selling as well as developing knowledge through educational programs and networking with industry colleagues.

PWIT- LA is profesisonal in its orientation, as it is felt that expertise will prevail in the years ahead.  Monthly functions are designed to help its members grow as individuals which, in turn, directly relates to the work environment.  The members thus see PWIT-LA as a helpmate towards career goals.   Members are not looking for ideal business conditions but the do wish to create positive business conditions for women in the travel industry; not to demand recognition, but to commend it through educational programs and contributions to the industry.

PWIT-- LA  is made up of professional women and men in the travel industry including both suppliers and retailers.  Membership encompases representatives from retail travel agencies, airlines, hotels, cruise lines, car rental companies, wholesale tour operators, national tourist offices, travel planners and the travel media. Members hail from the Los Angeles International Airport area as our southern boundary through the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys and up into Ventura County to the north.  All members share, in common, their activity in the sales and promotional aspects of the travel industry.

PWIT-LA offers a wide spectrum of activities to its members and to the industry.  Most events are dinner functions, usually on the third Tuesday of the month.  Past monthly event have included educational presentations on world areas, sales techniques, cruise nights, various product seminars, tour operators-- the list is endless!

Membership offers, first and foremost, contact with others in the industry-- agents, suppliers, buyers, competitors-- a unique opportunity to meet othes who can be beneficial to ones personal business situation.  Secondly, education in sales, new trends and work techniques.  Thirdly, the camaraderie of new friendships, of the personal touch and of knowing those with whom you deal, on a first name basis.

Anyone actively engaged in the sale and promotion of travel, in an established travel business entity, applying for membership is elilgible.  Men and women involved in both inside and outside sales are eligible.  However those strictly in clerical, secretarial, accounting or operational activities with no sales or promotional involvement are not eligible.  A travel firm may have more than one member of its staff in PWIT-LA.  It is not necessary for an employer to sponsor an applicant.

Membership may be either Corporate (paid and retained by the company if the member leaves that company.  That company may then formally apply for another eligible employee to replace that member ) or Individual (wherein the member pays to join and retains their membership in the event of job change). Dues (subject to change) are currently $35.00 for Travel Agents and $50.00 for Suppliers, which cover our fiscal year of July 1st to June 30th.

In 1998, Travellarians Los Angeles became Professional Women in Travel, a name more easily identifiable with and a charter member of IFWTO, the International Federation of Women's Travel Organizations worldwide.  Due to the changes in our industry since September 11, 2001, we found it necessary to divest ourselves from IFWTO.  More recently, many of our members have affiliated themselves with a newly formed international travel organization called Women In Tourism International Alliancs, Ltd. also known as  WITIA .

With more men expressing interest in the organization, we deemed it appropriate  in 2008 to change our name to reflect the broader membership.
