I first became aware of AdSense while watching a story on Good Morning America about two retirees who were making money by implementing Google's AdSense program on their personal websites.

I have limited website creation knowledge, but I thought to myself, "If they can teach themselves how to build a website and earn income, so can I."  So, immediately after seeing the story on Good Morning America I began doing some research online about Google's AdSense program.  I discovered that it is a legitimate way to earn money with absolutely no money out of your pocket, aside from web hosting fees.  It's hard to be skeptical when talking about a company as trustworthy as Google.

You can start earning money from home with AdSense.  The only thing you need is a website.  If you have one, great!  If not, create one about a topic that interests you.  You will also need to find a web host to publish your site.  There are many to choose from, Yahoo, Google, and GoDaddy are the most familiar to people who are novices.

After you have a website, go to Google and create an AdSense account.  Then read all of Google's tips, helps, and view their demos about how to insert the Google ads into your website.  It's just that easy.  You will discover that you have to copy and paste some html code into your site, but don't let this discourage you.  Be patient, read and reread Google's walkthroughs and it will all start to make sense to you.

You may be wondering what's the catch.  That's the beauty of this whole thing.  There is no catch!  The guys at Google are geniuses.  What they do is get business owners to pay them to run ads through the AdSense program.  The advertisers pay Google every time their ads work, in other words every time someone clicks on one of their ads.  In turn, Google will give you a portion of those profits each time someone clicks on an ad from your site.

The best part about the whole program is that the ads will match the content to your site.  For example, if your site is about camping, then the ads that Google will put on your site will be for camping equipment and other related products or services.  All you have to do is copy and paste in the html and Google does the rest.

Part of your agreement with Google is that you will not click on your own ads, that you will not encourage others to click your ads, and that you will not have illegal or inappropriate content on your website.

You can check your AdSense account any time you want to see how much money is in it.  After it reaches $100, Google will mail you a check!  That's it!  I challenge you to find a quicker and easier way to make money.

A word of caution though:  Google is very quick to disable, without any warning, any account that they feel violates their policies.  In fact, my account was disabled after just 3 weeks for unknown reasons.  From my own experience, and what I've read in the forums, this happens occasionally to innocent victims of spam clicking.  Spam clicking is when someone maliciously repeatedly clicks one of your ads in hopes that your account gets banned.  This is a real threat, if it happened to me it can happen to anyone, but AdSense is still the best paying and easiest of all the free PPC advertisers.

Google Adsense and The Many Questions about Adsense

By: James Murray

a) Why Do You Need Google Adsense?

Because it is there, it is fun and it is free. If you are reading this, you obviously have some interest in the internet. You do not even have to have your own website, although the more sites you use Google Adsense on, the more money you will make. For example, anyone can write a blog even if it is just your own opinion on something.

You can also make money referring other people to Google Adsense. By placing a referral button on your site you increase your earnings potential. When a publisher that you referred makes their initial $100.00 within 90 days of sign-up and is eligible for payout, your account will also be credited $100.00. Additionally, they must never have registered for a Google Adsense account before.

Do not be intimidated by the html code. It is already formatted. All you have to do is choose the language and kind of button you would like, and copy and paste the html code to your website. Look for the referral code and more information under Adsense support.

b) What is Google Adsense for Search?

Google Adsense for Search is different than Adsense for Content but it is just as important to your earning power with the Google Adsense program.

Just like Adsense for Content places targeted ads on your content webpages, Adsense for Search places targeted ads on the results page of the search set in motion on your page.

You can use the standard Google search box on your site and the user can then search the web or even your website. When you feel more comfortable, you can change the look of the Google search box, essentially customizing it by changing the colors and using your logo.

The best thing about Google Adsense for Search is that you can track what web surfers are searching for. That is, if the search has two or more hits. Unique queries will not be tracked. But you can see the top 25 searches performed from your website by clicking on the Advance Report from the Reports tab and specifying a date range.

c) What Other Forms of Payment Does Google Adsense Offer?

You can elect to have your Google Adsense payments mailed to you via check in your local currency. Google Adsense offers this option in 42 countries. Check the Google Adsense support center to see if your country is included in this list.

To select receiving your check by postal mail, log in to your Google Adsense account, click the edit link near Payment Details and then click the Check, Standard Delivery radio button. Then click continue. Now you can select your currency, if available or you may select US dollars. When you’re satisfied with your choices, click save settings.

You may also choose to receive your payment through Secured Express Delivery. There is a fee for this service but you can expect to receive your check within 5-10 business days after it has been sent. If you choose this option, you will need to contact DHL (the courier service) to make sure they offer service to your area and that your address is in the proper format.

d) When Do You Get Paid Using Google Adsense?

Google Adsense pays you approximately 30 days after the end of the month in which you become eligible to receive payment. You become eligible for payment only when your Adsense account reaches at least $100.00. Suppose, for example, you started in January and at the end of the month you had not yet accumulated $100.00 in your Google Adsense account. You would then need to wait and see if your January and February earnings combined equal $100.00. If they do, you would be paid approximately 30 days after the end of the month of February, that is, you could expect payment near the end of March.

Another good reason to also use Adsense for Search is that you get to combine the earnings to reach the $100.00 payout minimum. So if your earnings for Adsense for Content do not reach $100.00 in time for the current payout, but when combined with your Adsense for Search earnings they do meet the payout minimum, you will be paid accordingly.

 AdSense Ad Formats

By: kamikazeadmin

Everything in AdSense is about choices and learning what works best for your particular website. Ad formats are no different. There is a selection of different formats for text-based ads you can choose to place ads into your website exactly where they will work best for you.

The Leaderboard ad format is quite popular. It is 728 X 90 in size and sits atop your webpage. As many as four ads fit nicely inside the leaderboard and the ads are arranged from left to right. This can be an attractive layout and will fit with almost any website format.

The Banner format is 468 X 60 in size and can be placed almost anywhere on the page. This format holds two ads nicely and can be used along the side or at the top of content attractively enough. The Half Banner is only 234 X 60 and allows you to place one ad anywhere you desire on your webpage. The Vertical Banner stacks the ads on top of each other and is 120 X 240 in size.

For small ads, place the Button ad format on your website. This format is a 125 X 125 square and holds a single AdSense ad. This can be the perfect showcase piece for an ad, especially when formatted with a background color.

If you want several ads, you might prefer the Sky Scraper format which is 120 X 600 in size. It can hold three or four ads easily and can be placed on either side of the website content. If you want more space, choose the Wide Sky Scraper format which is 160 X 600 in size and can readily hold five Adsense ads.

The Small Rectange is 180 X 150 and holds one AdSense ad very well. The Medium Rectangle format allows three or four ads to be placed inside a 300 X 250 rectangle. The Large Rectangle, perfect for placing four ads inside, is 336 X 280. The Square measures 250 X 250 and holds up to three AdSense ads well.

If you use image-based Adsense ads, you can choose the Leader Board which you will find placed across the top of many websites. It measures 728 X 90. The Banner is a smaller ad that measure 468 X 60. The Sky Scraper and Wide Sky Scraper are also choices for use on the sides of a webpage. Or you can choose the Medium Rectangle format. All of these image ads hold a single image.

There are also various layouts for displaying Link Unit Adsense ads so that they will fit well into your website also. They can be stacked, lined up across the top or bottom and allow just as much variety as the text and image ads.
