Minutes Purring Tigers Meeting 1/9/11

On a cold Winter's night under a waxing crescent moon, the Purring Tigers met at the teepee of  Blazing Cheetah and Sparkle Bug on the ninth day of the first month for their inaugural meeting in the year 2011 of their third year in the Mighty Arapahoe nation.  With the holidays complete, the princesses were ready to start the new year by continuing their work  of helping others.

The well-rehearsed Purring Tigers tribe began the meeting with the Arapahoe nation's Pledge, Aims, and Slogan.  The tribe recited everything without even a moment's hesitation.  Apparently it takes the Purring Tigers 20 meetings over 2 and a half years to commit the Pledge, Aims and Slogan to memory.

The Princesses continue their acts of service to their families and community in the collection of wampum.  The Princesses continue to show their ever-growing maturity by helping in the kitchen, working in the yard, and helping with their siblings,  The wampum bag is getting very full with nearly 3 years of wampum collection.  We will soon put the wampum to good use by helping the needy in our community.

Snoring Elephant and Starlight Swam were still a little winded from their four mile hike in earning their totem feathers.  They had braved the wind and cold to walk home from Brueggers Bagels.  The tribe is continuing to earn their totem pieces by working on service projects as a tribe at the monthly meeting.  Many in the tribe are nearly finished earning their totem pieces.

Howling Wolf had an update from Samaritan’s Purse regarding the gifts they had sent to the Sudanese children.  Our pakages had arrived safely in Sudan.  I am sure the gifts were greatly appreciated.

The Braves continue to find inspiring ways to help the community through service projects.  With each meeting, the Purring Tigers have found a unique way to help an organization and have fun at the same time.  Blazing Cheetah had found another way for the tribe to have a good time, learn a new skill, and help others, all at the same time.  When Sparkle Bug was a baby Princess, she got very  sick with pneumonia and had to spend some time at Rex Hospital.  While there, she was given a blanket for both warmth and for something to cuddle with.  This blanket  was made and donated to the hospital by someone in the community.  Even after all these years, Sparkle Bug still has her blanket.

As a way to help other infants when they have to spend time at Rex Hospital, Blazing Cheetah had the idea that our tribe could make the same type of blanket and donate them to the hospital.  So with some previously unforeseen sewing ability, each Brave and princess sewed, with guidance, two pieces of cloth around a piece of batting to create a new blanket.  Blazing Cheetah (or possibly Blazing Cheetah's squaw) then bound the edges to finish the blanket.  The Princess's also wrote notes to be sent along with the blankets in case the new owners would like to know where the blankets came from.  The tribe may even get to take a tour of Rex Hospital as a result of their donation.

After the Princesses enjoyed a snack and the Braves planned for their next meeting, the Purring Tigers said their closing prayer, and then braved the cold to return to their warm teepees.

Minutes Purring Tigers Meeting 12/12/10

Under a rising moon, the Purring Tigers met at the wigwam of Wise Owl and Hidden Owl on the twelfth day of the twelfth month for their final gathering in the year 2010 of their third year in the Mighty Arapahoe nation.  With the celebration of Christmas less than two weeks away, the princesses were noticeably excited for the coming Holiday.

The experienced Purring Tigers tribe began the meeting with the Arapahoe nation's Pledge, Aims, and Slogan.  Surprisingly, the tribe missed one of the six Aims which can only be attributed to their anticipation for the upcoming meeting.  The Braves may need a refresher course before the January meeting.

Continuing the motto of service, the Purring Tiger's Princesses, again exceeded expectations in their efforts in the collection of wampum.  With the preparation of the family tee-pees for the coming Birth of Jesus, many of the princesses assisted their families in the decoration of wigwams with trees, lights and other festive adornments.  Although it may bring a little sadness to the Braves, the Princesses are showing signs of their maturity by helping with laundry and meal preparation.  The little Princesses are not so little any more.

Continuing the tribe's goals to earn all of their totem pieces by Spring outing, Snowy Owl earned a totem piece by adopting a needy family during the Holiday season.  They purchased and wrapped gifts for two boys, aged 5 and 10.  I am sure their generosity was greatly appreciated.

The Princesses and Braves then moved on to the sentimental craft of the evening.  Wise Owl  had the original pictures from their first year used to help the Princesses memorize the real and Indian names of the tribe to earn a first-year red feather.  Oh, how the Princesses have grown!  Amazingly, the Braves had not changed a bit!  Using a glass ornament, the Princesses created a Christmas ornament using their picture and red, green, and white beads as well as some jingle bells.  Hopefully, this will be reminder, for years to come,  to both the Braves and the Princesses, of their fun together in the Y program.

With the smell of sugar in the air, the Princesses and Braves began the service project planned by Wise Owl.  The Brown Bag Ministry at Wise Owl's church, which delivers meals to the homeless in the local area, asked for cookies as a special treat for their meal preparation.  In a rare moment of mental clarity, Wise Owl  thought of a way to earn a service totem piece while having fun at the same time.  The Princesses then began decorating Christmas cookies shaped as reindeer, stars, snowmen , Christmas trees, and Angels with festive red, green, white, and yellow icing.  The talents of the princesses emerged as amazing cookies were created.  The Braves were shocked at how detailed and imaginative the Princesses could be in the decoration of those Christmas cookies.  I am confident that the homeless were thankful for their efforts and their work brought a smile, as well as a sweet taste, to those enjoying their creations.

After the Princesses enjoyed a cookie of their own creation and the Braves planned for the Spring, the Purring Tigers said their closing prayer, and returned to their tee-pees knowing that they had brought a little joy to those who are less fortunate.

Appropriately with a full moon shining in the night sky, the Purring Tigers met at the tee-pee of Howling Wolf and Leaping Willow on the twenty-first day of the eleventh month of the year 2010.

As prescribed by the Mighty Arapahoe nation tradtions, the Purring Tigers began the meeting with their rendition of the Pledge and Aims. Even with two and a half years of practice, the Braves need the guidance of their Princesses to successful complete the Pledge and Aims.

True to the goals of the Y Program's third year motto of service, the Purring Tigers showed their true spirit by earning totem pieces for their acts of service to the community. Floating Duck showed great initiative by organizing and performing a show in the driveway of her tee-pee to raise wampum for needy squaws and braves. Hidden Owl, chauffered by Wise Owl, hunted and gathered a Thanksgiving meal for a needy family. Leaping Deer and Spirited Eagle earned a totem piece with their service to our environment. They collected 6 bags of trash from a trail near the village of Lexington which included 4 bags to be recycled and 2 bags to be disposed. Starlight Swam and Snoring Elephant gathered much needed food for the needy and delivered it to Martial Arts . The Purring Tigers are off to a great start in helping others and the environment.

Continuing the great Purring Tigers wampum tradition, the princesses have the cleanest rooms and most leaf-free yards in the village of Cary. They also baked cookies, washed cars, and cleaned other rooms in their tee-pees. Great job, Princesses.

Howling Wolf planned this meeting around the donation of items through an organization called Samaritan's Purse. What an excellent idea of service to those less-fortunate. First, Leaping Willow read a description of the organization to the tribe. Samaritan's Purse is an international relief organization modelled after the Bible story of the Good Samaritan. For over 40 years, they have been provided supplies and services to people all over the world. Next, Howling Wolf showed an inspiring photo display of the children that would be receiving our supplies in the Sudan. The Princesses could see how different the Sudanese children's lives are from theirs. The children looked so happy receiving the boxes from Samaritan's Purse.

The Princesses, with a little help from the Braves, then sorted the items for the two shoe boxes they would be donating. What a wonderful and generous offering to the kids. The Sudanese children will be receiving school supplies, toys and toiletries. The final task was to wrap the shoe boxes so that the Sudanese children can receive them as presents. Howling Wolf and Spirited Eagle took the lead in wrapping their respective show boxes. Although initially challenged by the complexity of wrapping a show box with a lid, Spirited Eagle rose to the occasion and completed the task with pride. All of the other Braves cheered!

After a sweet snack of cookies, baked by Leaping willow, and juice boxes and a closing prayer, the Purring Tigers tribe headed back to their tee-pees. Howling Wolf had planned a great meeting to help a worthy organization.

On the tenth day of the tenth month of the year 2010, the Purring Tigers had a unique, fun, and inspiring meeting. Thanks to the wonderful idea and planning of Snoring Elephant and Starlight Swan, the tribe met at Vision Marital Arts in the village of Apex.

We began the meeting as usual with the Princesses leading the Braves with their superior memorization of the Y Programs Pledge and Aims. The Purring Tigers then exceeded $100 of wampum by helping others and their families. All of the Braves are very proud of their Princesses efforts over the past 2 years.

Hidden Owl, Sparkle Bug, and Leaping Willow and their Braves all earned their totem pole wings by camping and going over a 4 mile hike at Hanging Rock State Park. Then the real fun began.

The Purring Tigers were led by Master Alex Changho and his assistants, Snoring Elephant and Starlight Swan in an exhibition of karate. We learned about courage and confidence by how we carry ourselves. The Princesses and Braves were instructed to stand tall, back straight, chest out, and to make eye contact to express confidence. The Princesses then demonstrated to the Braves how to shout Stop and use their arms to catch an agressor off-guard. We then did 60 blocking moves in rapid succession.

Master Changho then talked about how important it is to set goals in life and to strive to achieve them. As an example to the tribe, we watched Starlight Swam kick high over her head challenged by Master Changho. The tribe, then tested their kicking techniques with the help of Snoring Elephant and Starlight Swan. Spirited Eagle was especially dexterous in his kicking skill.

As a final instruction, Master Changho led a discussion of overcoming their fears. Each princess wrote on a board something that made them afraid. Then with an previously unseen power and fierceness to the Braves, each princess shattered each of their boards symbolizing their fears. All of the Braves were extremely impressed.

The eventful meeting ended with thanks and signs of respect to Master Changho and our Y Programs prayer. All of the Braves and Princesses left Vision Martial Arts for their tee-pees with new life lessons.

With a nearly full moon shining overhead, the first meeting of
Purring Tigers Third year princess tribe commenced around a roaring fire
at the tee-pee of Chief Mountain Man and Snowy Owl.  The theme of the
third year Y princess program is service. All of the princesses and
braves had a lively discussion in how our tribe can earn our totem pole
feathers while helping others.  The tribe will work on projects involving
helping the less fortunate in our area over the coming year.

All of the princesses earned their wampum by helping others in
their house or in their neighborhood.  Since this was the initial meeting
after an eventful summer, the tribe had a general discussion on their
summer adventures.  Snowy Owl told us about her trip and how she now has
a new hermit crab named Hermy.

Then the tribe enjoyed a glorious fire by making yummy smores.
Our tribe was even treated to a wonderful nature display as nine deer
passed by in the nearby woods as well as a hummingbird appeared at the
bird feeder.

The meeting finished and the braves and princesses headed back
to their tee-pees looking forward to an exciting third year.
