The beach at Punta Banda is almost 5 miles long, 200-300 yards wide at low tide, and the wind blows off the ocean at right angles to the beach (Port tack sails East, Starboard tack sails West; perfect for sailing the full length of the beach in both directions. Beach sailing (on hard pack sand) is more less common than dry lake beds or ice, but it very safe. and the ambiance of sailing beside the ocean delightful. There are plenty of shore birds (including seagulls) who are right at home watching a rather large wing going by them. To respect the birds, I always give them a wide birth the first time down the beach. Seagulls flying down the beach will often fly just a few feet off the end of the mast for long distances, flying in formation, as it were.
