Founded on 2008 phenomenally successful ‘Story of Egmo’
literacy campaign, ‘The Best Writer in the Universe 2009’ is a short
story competition with a twist. Entrants are actively dissuaded from
writing serious stories, and are instead encouraged to venture into the
outer reaches of surreal comedy – the sillier the better! Open to all
students under 25 in the UK, and with a 2500 word limit, entrants stand
a chance of winning a Nintendo Wii, £500 in book tokens for their
school, plus the exciting opportunity to have their entry read by a
celebrity on the Story of Egmo podcast. A sample story read by popular
comedian Adam Buxton is available for free download from the
competition website.
