Besides having some soft spots on Cybertron line, I am never a fan of Unicron trilogy lines. The major reaon is I prefer transformers
having realistic (or somewhat realistic) alternate mode but those lines typically don't. For this Energon Rodimus, I never want him but
he comes with the 4 figures deal along with Sky-Byte. To my surprise, my son is actually playing with him so that he lives long
enough for me to write this review.
Rodimus's alternate mode is a heavily modified monster semi truck. It's actually not a bad looking truck and it's color scheme and
paint jobs are excellent. To represent Rodimus name right, this truck has the rear wing (or spoiler, I'm confused) but they are not
sturdy enough to connect tightly. There is a peg on the right side that can attach his gun or mini-cons (but very loose). Most of the
robot parts are hiding properly and he rolls okay with 6 wheels. There is a hook at the end so looks like he can do some towing but
I can't think of a way or a car to do so.
After a fairly simple transformation, Rodimus becomes a bulky robot but only good looking at the colors. Typically from the bottom,
an orange stick piece sticks out from the heel to support standing, this is so strange and ungly and totally unnecessary. His two
legs are so thick but so lacks of articulations. His legs movement is so limited and even worse than the classics one. Moving up to
the body, as the legs take out half of the truck, his body and chest are just too thin and flat. Then to the arms and shoulders, the
elbow joint is way up high to the shoulder that leave him almost no upper arm. The shoulders are just sliding from the back and
there are no clicks to steady them. And finally, at least his face looks good but his head is steady and cannot turn. He comes with
one clear orange gun which looks okay. He now can attach a mini-con at the bottom of his right arm, but as I said before, the peg
is slightly thin so the mini-con is too loose to connect to.
Transformation: 6 - Fairly easy. No need instruction.
Fun: 6 - To me, his truck mode is a little bit more fun than robot due to all the issues I said above.
Display: 8 - He has great color scheme in either mode. Unfortunately the truck mode is a better display piece than robot mode, IMO.
Value: 6 - Got him from a deal of 4 at $20 from craiglist. $4 is fairly satisfying for him plus he has the gun.
Overall: 6 - When my son is done with him, he will be on sale.
