Gee! I am not a particular Megatron's fan but I can't believe about 6 months ago, I don't have any Megatron since I don't know which
one to pick and I totally hate his movie designs. Now I have four of him, each in different sizes and shapes. Batmobile in leader,
nerf gun in voyager, ugly helicopter in scout/activator, and this, T-REX in deluxe. Since he is the second dinosaur TF I've own, most
of the time I will compare him with the universe SE Overkill. Megatron's T-REX mode is actually a re-mold of his in Beast Wars with the additional of planet key slot. As a deluxe class, this dinosaur is actually in a pretty big size. Having him in a scene of chasing same deluxe class cars actually reminds me Jurasic Park. He is much taller than Overkill's dinosaur mode and unlike Overkill who looks more like a machine dinosaur with sharp edges,
Megatron looks more like a real dinosaur with smooth skins and muscles (he has a tongue!). His tail cannot swing like Overkill but his neck can move up and down and slightly left and right. His two feet balance is preetty well and he does not have a strange gun sticking up on his back to ruin the look. The transformation is pretty straight forward but for my first time without instruction, transforming from robot to dinosaur did
frustrate me a little bit on the body rotation. Megatron is now only slightly taller than Overkill's robot mode and he is in pretty good
balance. All the joints are still tight and he is quite poseable. Only problem is his arms look somewhat short now especially his left
arm. His right hand is the T-REX hand which looks cool but his left hand is nothing but a crab hand. The tail can still be hold in
his hand (this is usually I just leave it to as it looks the best) or can attach to the arm. Inserting the key will open the cap to fire the missile (but from some angles it looks more like a giant crab hand). For some reason, I am really not a fan of key activating features. Because we need to store the keys and with more figures, more keys need to be stored and more risk of loosing them. Transformation: 7 - Pretty straight forward and the body rotation was frustrating for my first time. Fun: 9 - He is really fun. A good looking T-REX mode that can move very well and a robot that is in a very good balance with posing abilities.
Display: 9 - Woo, so nice as a T-REX that can fools so many people. Robot mode looks good, too.
Value: 9 - $10.5 on an auction that I didn't expect to win plus $3.61 shipping. But at least this is a good figure. Overall: 9 - A great T-REX mode that I believe my son will love it. A robot that is well balanced and poseale only with some articualtion issues on his arms.
