Personally I do like Optimus Prime. I like him as a leader character and his personality. Megatron, as a contrast role, is also an
interesting character. I especially like him in G1 as he is showing more characteristics as a leader. Some of the series are
unfortunately showing him only as a destroyer who does not care about anything, anybody but power (Japanese curse). Any way, for
the toys that I am collecting, for some reason, Optimus Prime is really outnumbered by Megatron.
I always want a dragon Megatron. After many fail attempts on the Transmetal 2, I turned to find and got this RiD line Megatron. Well,
he got 10 modes and he has 2 modes in Dragon. So usually I start my review with the alternate mode, but this time I don't know
which one to start with. So I start with the robot mode first and the pictures below are in the same order.
Initially without doing too much research, I thought he is a leader class and worrying about my shelf space. But after I got him, no,
he is pretty much the ultra(or voyager) class size which I am very happy about. His robot mode is excellent. All the joints are very
tight (except the angles) and he is very well balanced. He lacks a little bit on the weapons which he got only two swords/missles
but they can combine into one. The best thing about him is he is so poseable and the wings that can fold forward/backward
are totally not in the way for his arms or causing unbalance issue. This is also the most fun (and meaningful) mode that he has.
According to the instruction (from Galvatron), first is the bat/gargoyle mode. Ehhhhh, Forget it. 1/5
Next is the two-headed dragon mode. This is my favorite mode. The heads are able to make a lot of movements which make this
mode very fun. The only problem is the legs (which are his robot hands) that cannot hold the entire weight very well. For holding
him flying around, no problem. For standing, many times have to use the tail to support. 5/5
Then to the jet mode. This is not a bad mode after all but the two rear landing gears are weak. 4/5
Then to the car/transport mode. This looks like a prototype batmobile but never think about rolling him around. He just can't. 2/5
Now to the hand/claw mode. This mode is quite fun. It is big enough to squeeze an entire deluxe figure and also able to grab the
bigger ones. Lots of movement to make many gestures. The handle to activate fingers flopping is useles. 4/5
Next is the griffin mode. This mode is okay. Just not as fun as some others. 3/5
Then to another dragon mode. Saying him is a dragon, he also looks like a bird or anything similar. Just not that good. 2/5
Now to elephant mode. Are you kidding me? How about Dumbo mode. 0/5
Last is the boat mode. Ehhhh, what? 1/5
Transformation: 8 - Almost every part can move but they all place at the position well. Few parts will pop out during transformation
but overall it's okay. Transforming all the 10 modes through will take a lot of time.
Fun: 9 - He is excellent in robot mode. The alternate modes are everybody's taste.
Value: 7 - I thought he was a leader class figure but after knowing the truth, the value slided from 9. Paid him at $24.23 plus $5.35
shipping with a lot of dust and no box and instruction. At least he is a good figure.
Overall: 9 - He is a good figure especially the robot mode. After this reivew, I believe few of the modes I will never transform to.
