Wreck-Gar

As Hasbro’s “plan” in year 2010 and 2011, they released quite a few popular who-need-to-be-redesigned G1 characters in CHURG (Classics/Henkei/Universe 2.0/Reveal The Shield/Generation) line. The Junkions were first introduced in the ’86 movie with the very memorable fight against Springer and other Autobot folks (and the dance) but then were pretty much no show besides their leader Wreck-Gar in season 3. Wreck-Gar himself was then disappeared completely after season 3 for about 20 years until Animated series and so did his toys. So, is Wreck-Gar popular? He now has a brand new mold and even released before many other big names. Well, the bio said pretty well, “no one knows what he is talking about”.

Wreck-Gar’s alternate mode is a motorcycle, just like he was in G1. Which kind I can’t tell but at least Hasbro stayed with his original form (Perceptor!!!!!!). He is well detailed and also painted well, although not a fan of those powdery paints like Hasbro used on Blurr, they just feel too scratchy. The bike rolls well and the stand makes him stay straight and still. The rub sign is on the front but looks really bad. I simply just removed it and replaced with an Autobot insignia sticker. The tail part lacks few details also so I just made some. First put black on the rim of tail light and license plate and painted red on the tail light. Then use some left over stickers to customize the license plate with chromed base and black words “TV” on it. Also cut two more chrome stickers to put on back mirrors. Done! Now to the fun part. He is really designed to be ride on plus the stand provides him very good balance (as we all know already that there will be a remold Junkion from his instruction sheet) and almost all deluxe classes fit with him well. Jazz looks kind of chubby on him and brings me some laugh; Kup looks really heavy; he looks fantastic riding himself; and Mirage and Arcee fit with him perfectly. Bumblebee? Sorry, not for kids.

First time transformation without instruction, he is fairly complicate especially putting back to the bike. He also feels kind of flimsy during the process (and he is flimsy, we will talk about that later). He is okay after few times but putting back to bike mode is still. Wreck-Gar has a very nice robot mode. He is thin and has a smiley animated style face. While he has two huge tires both hanging on the left side, he has a thick leg on the right to balance that. He is quite poseable and well balanced. Since the legs are different in shape and in length as well, they need to have some adjustments to make him stand straight. The arms can move well but unfortunately the right arm has a shoulder pad to limit a little bit movement and the left arm has that huge tire hanging there plus the stand is now blocking some space on the back. His weapon is the trademark axe that can be stored on the left leg wheel or his back with the clip. Too bad it is in unpainted gray, or the weapon will look much nicer and cooler. I didn’t paint it because if I do, there will be much more parts that need to be painted to bring up the balance and I don’t have much colors to choose from now and don’t have that much time either. Overall he is very nice but I notice he got some QC issues. First is his open palms. I’ve been saying so many times that I’m not a fan of open palms. Some of them are designed well like Straxus and Jazz but some of them failed, like Animated Arcee. Wreck-Gar unfortunately falls into that category. I recently noticed that he has a stress mark on his right palm due to the weapon insertion. This really scared me so much that now I only insert the axe from the tip. Beside here, I also found two more stress mark areas. One is on the right shoulder ball joint rod and I believe it is already there when in package. Another one is the hook connector on his right leg to connect both legs into the bike seat. This is definitely caused during the difficult transformation. TBH, this is a really nicely designed and fun robot to display and play with. But because of those stress mark issues, I was kind of disappointed that I now have to be very gentle on him especially during transformation.

Transformation: 6 – Not that difficult after few times. But have to be careful and gentle because some plastics can’t handle too much stress.
Fun: 7 – He is totally fun in bike mode and robot mode. Many figures can ride him well in his bike mode and he can knee down, sit down, and dance with Hot Rod. Unfortunately the quality and stress mark issues draw the entire fun down and now have to be careful and gentle instead, especially during the transformation.
Display: 10 – A great display piece in both modes. I am even considering displaying him in bike mode and have Animated Arcee on him all the time.
Value: 8 - Ordered him from Hasbro Toy Shop at $10.79 after 10% down. Only this time I need to pay the shipping. He is totally worth but watch out for the stress mark issues and powdery paints.
Overall: 7 – As I am not really a fan of bike transformers, Wreck-Gar is really a good choice. Even if you are not a fan of Junkions, you still don’t want to miss him because of his coolness. The overall point is drawn down by the quality issues but that doesn’t mean he is a worthless figure. He is totally fun but just need to be gentle with him.
