IMO, Tracks is a lucky guy. Why? In season 2, he got almost 1.5 episodes of spotlight, which many of the season 1 big characters were dreaming of but had none. He appeared from the cartoon from time to time even as background fillers. In the comics, he appeared at several places, never being a significant role, but at least he showed his face. He was also a co-star of my favorite character’s spotlight – Jazz. He has toys in several lines and also in the first wave in the year of 2010’s newest Reveal The Shield (rub signs) line. He is also the first toy that I bought Reprolabels stickers to put on. If you have seen G1 cartoon, you for sure know Tracks is a Corvette. In this new toy, because of the license issue, he became a sports car but still very Corvette-ish. This car is sleek and looking very nice. He is highly detailed and the paint job is okay. Instead of continuing in Generation line, Hasbro don’t know why made a new line Reveal The Shield which brings the rub sign back. Personally I’m okay with the rub sign but I would much prefer if Hasbro use the right insignia and put it on the right place. So that’s why I need the Reprolables stickers. Anyway, this car needs a little bit tweak so all the tires can touch the ground and roll. Also back of the car doesn’t really connect well with the roof, so can easily see it’s lifting up a little bit. How can you feature Tracks without mentioning his flying car mode? Hasbro has done that in his G1 toy and also again this time. In this figure, this is pretty much done by opening up the doors, folding them down, extending them and swinging out the wings. The two rockets can be mounted on top of the trunk area but do not stay there tightly. Really not that convincible but does the trick. The problem is the wings are way too low that overall looks strange. Tracks transformation is actually fun. Really no difficult part and if you move things right, the scheme is quite smooth. His robot mode looks quite similar to his Alternators line also, which is also what I was afraid of initially. But the whole robot mode is very nice. His legs balance the whole body very well, even though the knee joint movement is limited. The arms are very poseable even though feel a little bit short. The modern design open palms can hold the weapon well and also fit well with any other standard classics size weapons. I love double joints elbows. He has light-pipe eyes but were pretty much blocked by the paint. I can see Hasbro was trying to make his eyes work like Terradive’s but the painters just failed the job. They also screwed up his face that some of the red paint went over his head. Overall he looks very nice and can look even better if the wings are longer and the inside of the doors are painted white (and red) to match his cartoon design. Well, guess I just have to paint them by myself. Now here come my customizations and Reprolables stickers. What I did was simple, just paint inside of the door white and add red stripe. It does make the figure look even better with the contrast color. Reprolables stickers set for Tracks is fantastic. There are two hood flame options to choose from and I choose the Autobot insignia on fire one. The background blue doesn’t exactly match Tracks blue but close enough. Other details are fairly nice and meaningful and the license plate is great. I didn’t use the green block and red stripe for the wings because it doesn’t make much sense for me plush I already painted them. Of course the most important and reasonable part is to remove the rub sign and replace with Autobot sign. Transformation: 7 – Transformation is fun and not frustrating. Unfortunately he does not have a solid and sturdy car mode.
Fun: 9 – Good car mode and great robot mode, plus the passable flying car mode in between. Also he is quite poseable and well balanced. Reprolabels: 8 - This stickers set is majority focusing on the vehicle mode (especially the hood) and brings little to robot mode since Tracks robot mode is detailed enough plus my painted wings. Display: 10 – Without my custom paint and Reprolabels stickers, he is 9. Value: 8 – Since I have no patient and ordered him from Hasbro Toy Shop, he is at $10.79 after 10% down from original but I got free shipping. A good deal better than trying to find him at Kohl’s who is more expensive. Stickers are $8.5 though. Overall: 9 – A really close to perfect figure even without my customizations. Flying mode isn’t that nice but is a good addition. And Hasbro should take care of those minor quality issues. But they did a good job on representing him as Tracks so people recognize him right away (unlike IDW’s Blurr). Not to mention his future remold, Wheeljack, I will leave that part until then. Before -
