Superion

Usually we TF fans will always have some drought time to play catch up. There really isn’t anything out there. There are some few but because of usually all retail stores are either preparing for the next big wave (like move line) or now is normally their inventory time, there really is nothing out there. But strangely, those few items aren’t really much available from some big online sites as well. So this time during my drought time while still looking for some should be available figures, I’ve put some big money on Fanproject sets and one of them requires another purchase, Superion.

I wasn’t really a fan of Superion in his G1 days but he is the first combiner that poor Autobots have got for long. While I was very, very satisfied with FP’s Bruticus upgrade set, getting Superion with FP’s upgrade set seems like a reasonable bet. Bang my head again. I should have got the Universe/ROTF Superion set long ago while he was all available at every Target so now I don’t have to suffer by those after market prices. I even should have got the FP set when it was easier to get. Anyway, I got them both now.

This Universe/ROTF Superion is a repaint of Energon Superion. He consists of 5 member as well. Silverbolt, Air Raid, Slingshot, Fireflight, and Skydive. Please click the images below for their individual reviews.
Airazor Air Raid Fireflight Silverbolt Sky Dive

If you have seen Superion’s combine scene in Energon cartoon, you will have to problem with his transformation and combining on this toy. They are almost the same. After experienced Bruticus, I was quite looking forward to Superion as well but was then disappointed. The blue connectors are either tight or loose, inserting the limbs in aren’t that smooth. After everything is in, I’m not that impressed with Superion’s robot mode just like I felt before. Either or both Air Raid and Airazor are terrible being legs. Their unstable sticks can’t hold the entire body weight and cause balance issue. The hollow chest still looks bad that makes me want to find something to fill it in. Colors are looking better now after mixing them together. And since majority of my custom paints are on Silverbolt, his body is now looking more colorful and brighter. Posing is okay just like the before FP Bruticus and the balance depends on whom being the legs. Because of the quality, I just can’t find the same enthusiastic and excitement I had when I was combining Bruticus.

Transformation: 4 – Not truly fun. The leg connectors are too tight that can easily slide the thighs down while legs still not push in. Right arm is a little loose that the entire arm will pop off if I move it too fast.
Fun: 5 – Because of the balance and connector issues, he isn’t that stable and fun to pose and play.
Display: 7 – Okay but now comparing to this, I think the before FP Bruticus looks even better.
Value: 6 – I could have and should have just grabbed him when he was available all over Target. $41.99 after market price doesn’t treat this right but at least it’s a brand new one and ape4toys’s service made me feel better.
Overall: 6 – He is okay, but without the FP upgrade set, I would not think about getting him. Swapping limbs with Bruticus? Hmm, let me think about it.
