Heard and knew the universe ultra class Onslaught is a good figure but for some reason I didn’t have much interest in him, especially ultra class figures are usually more expensive and I already have a universe version from the combiner set. So he has been on and off on my W list for a while until at some occasional time I was browsing eBay for some extra Christmas gifts for myself, I found one still at cheap price and the seller closed the auction at a very wrong time (around 4 am). I made my bid carelessly and went to bed, next morning I woke up, I won the auction. Onslaught’s alternate mode is a police SWAT armor truck. Not really being any of the realistic vehicles but this truck makes good sense and looks good with decent details and coloring. And I’m okay if he is not a military truck. The turret is fully rotatable and the electronic sounds works well by pressing the button on top of the turret. The shield can be attached on top of the turret and there is also a little switch on the shield that won’t affect pressing the sound button. For safety reason the turret guns are clipped on, but not very tight. So sometimes they can drop easily but at least easy to clip back on. This truck looks very nice and solid but the major problem is it doesn’t roll freely. This problem is caused by a middle wheel on the left side which actually triggers an electronic rolling sound when pressing down the vehicle and roll. This is a nice feature but the gimmick shouldn’t affect playability that bad. Transformation is fun and I actually have some troubles for my first time when changing the legs from vehicle mode to robot mode. Robot mode looks good and he is quite bulky and tall. Legs are bulky and provide him good balance. Only have some minor problem with the flipping toe. His arms are standard poseable and that’s important of being standard. The shield can be attached on his left arm or his back and his right arm has a spring triggered flip out gun. The only part I don’t like is the hollow forearms where the fists are stored in vehicle mode. Come on Hasbro, this is no deluxe class. They should have just made an extra flip up panel to hide that hollow part like they did on many other figures (like Megatron). This hollow part just doesn’t make the arm look good, but on the other side, that actually provides him an extra ability to swing the fist up a little bit to pose, but this isn’t being used often. Each first has a standard sized fist hole. Yes, that means he can hold extra weapons. How about the extra gun from the upgraded Fansproject Bruticus? Either separated two small ones or combined big one looks fantastic on him. Because of the chest design, his head looks like looking down. But the bonus part is his eyes (visor) will lit is red when the electronic button is pressed from his back. Transformation: 8 – Not difficult and well designed. Be careful on rotating the first to store back in. If in the wrong direction, his fist will be very difficult to pull out.
Fun: 8 – Good vehicle mode minus the wheel gimmick issue. Good robot mode with having all the standard features. Also only if the two turret guns are not that easily detachable. Display: 10 – He displays very well in either mode, especially when the robot mode is holding the extra gun from upgraded Bruticus. Value: 10 – Won this auction at $5.5. For an ultra class, this is a decent steal. Shipping is $11.5, though, but still almost half of the original price. Overall: 9 – Very lucky and happy I’m not paying full (original) price at this decent figure. He has no special features or innovative designs to surprise people but that actually makes him valuable and playable. Only if his vehicle mode can roll and go and the turret guns won’t drop that easily, he should be a perfect figure. |
