Like I said before (or did I?), I've never interested in getting PCC figures for either my self or my son. Even Huffer is bought by my wife whenI'm out of town. But this PCC 5 pack Grimstone is a different story. I knew my son will like it because of the dinosaurs. As the 2010 Christmas approaching, I started hunting for it but totally no luck. While I started whining about "why some other people found it but notme" statement, praise the Lord we got a surprise trip to Dallas for Christmas and guess what, I found it over there just in time for my son'sChristmas gift.
This 5 pack consists of 1 core body, which is Grimstone himself, and 4 dinosaur drones. Grimstone is the core body and he is a triceratops. He is not much bigger than the drones and the dino mode is kind of weak due to the distraction of those 4 light blue connectors. His tail has a mini-con connector but can't really put on anything in this mode because the tail is too low that those two rear legs limit the space in between. The two arm drones are a spinosaurus and a parasaurolophus. The two leg drones are a pachycephalosaurus and ankylosaurus. All the dino drones look very nice and they all have mini-con connectors but not on a very meaningful place. These five figures are all well painted and detailed and it's fun to have a dinobot army even though their articulations are very limited. Transformation for Grimstone to robot mode is quite easy and he is quite short comparing to Huffer. Articulation is very limited especially on the arms and like Huffer, his hand pretty much cannot hold anything. The tail is now on his back same does the mini-con connector but doesn't look any better if I attach anything onto it. I believe this is the least mode he will be transformed into. Reason below. While Grimstone doesn't look quite good in dino mode and robot mode, his core body mode is promising. Combining them is just inserting the hole on the drones into the blue connector and the drones will transform automatically. Sounds very easy but have to beware where to hold the drone while putting them in. If holding them at the wrong place where the pop out or joints are, it will be very difficult to put it. The two joints on Grimstone's knee are somewhat loose on mine so that makes put the leg drones in more challenging. But after combined, Grimstone looks really good. Because Grimstone's triceratops has longer body and shorter legs, the combined body structure is more normal especially on the legs (comparing to some other PCC combined figures who normally have Sailor Moon girls' long leg syndrome). The combined form is still quite poseable and all color allocations and details are well put. Unfortunately because this figure has loose knee joints, he sometimes doesn't stand well. Now he also has mini-con connectors all over the body but none of them make him look good with mini-con attached as far as I can tell. He isn't that much tall in the combined form as he is still dwarfed by MP Grimlock. Now I can finally attach the limbs to Huffer. Huffer looks really good also with dinobot limbs but he has that Sailor Moon girls' long leg syndrome. Transformation: 5 - I thought combining them will be easy and my son can do by himself, but actually not. The connectors are pretty tight to push in and the two knee joints are quite loose that makes push drones in harder. Fun: 9 - This set in fun in dino modes and much more in combined mode. Grimstone's robot mode isn't much, though. Oh, and pachycephalosaurus's arm (toe in combined form) can easily pop out sometimes. Display: 10 - This whole set is a good display piece in either dino mode or combined mode. They also make Huffer looks good. Value: 9 - $15 from Walmart in Dallas. This set worth that dollar. Overall: 8 - A great figure and my son loves playing it. Only problem is the pop out toe and loose knee joints. Combining also isn't as easy as I thought. Is this set going to make me like PCC? Don't know. Will I buy other PCC 5 pack? I don't know and am not sure. |
