For My Son‎ > ‎

Fallen

It will be cool to have a toy like The Fallen, one of the original Transformes. The Titanium one from DW’s War Within looks interesting but rarely brought up my interest to buy it despite the aftermarket price of him never being cheap. Then the ROTF movie provides us another The Fallen but honestly I hate those alien pharaoh designs. To me, it never makes sense to have ancient Transformers having pharaoh style look. Just terrible. But truth to be told from what I heard of, his toy wasn’t a bad toy but still I wouldn’t put my money to it even on clearance. Then on my family’s home country trip without me, my son got few additional TF toys back including this latest release of The Fallen, the one whose mask can be removed and having a staff which the previous two didn’t have. At least this one I approved comparing to my previous rants on Bumblebee and Optimus.

The Fallen’s alternate mode is a completely make up one since he never showed his alt mode in the movie. So he transforms to a jet like cruiser which is quite lame. Rather triangular and large, his head isn’t trying to hide but just covering by a piece of panel. There are pretty much no gimmicks in this mode so there is not much to cover as well.

Transformation was quite simple as you already know where the parts go. The Fallen’s robot mode is quite tall and can be even taller if he does not have those dinosaur legs. On this skeleton figure, he is quite poseable and well balance. What really bother me are the hands and feet. His hands look really strange and totally doesn’t look like hands at all. The staff can be clipped and pretend like holding it but it won’t stay tight. Down to the feet, I don’t know who gave this idea of having spring loaded toes. True, that could be cool and the toes can adjust the angles automatically depending on the pose, but then it usually takes couple tries to make them fully open when you are moving him from here to there. Later this became really annoying. Also that actually doesn’t make posing easy because at some angles when I need the toe to fold down to support, the spring can’t hold the weight and lay flat and then cause either imbalance or fall. Quite a bad idea actually. For anything else, the removable mask is fun but don’t do too much good because it doesn’t clip on the head tightly.

Transformation: 3 – Not much as he pretty much turns into nothing. Be tricky for kids if they want to connect every peg into place in alt mode.
Fun: 7 – Not much fun for alt mode but robot mode has some. Besides the spring loaded toes are annoying for having him jumping here and there, he is fun to play.
Display: 8 – He actually displays quite well but I don’t think I will display him in alt mode.
Value: 7 – Not my money, so I shouldn’t complain.
Overall: 6 – If you like the movie The Fallen, this is a good buy as he has something good in robot mode. Otherwise, it’s passable.
