Okay, not that I don’t want to buy toys for my son. I do and I would like to spend my money on good toys that are okay for his age as well, especially on Transformers since I know them so well. I know my son wants his own Prime instead of borrowing my super complicate ROTF leader class one and I’ve been looking for him as well. Unfortunately haven’t seen one except the movie Activators but I know he wants something cooler than that. When DOTM toys came out and of course there came another voyager class Prime, by just looking at it, I know it’s definitely not worth buying because it looks really bad. Then like that Bumblebee crap, things went out of my hand when I was not around to consult. There he now owned this Prime that I would never purchase.
Optimus Prime’s alternate mode is exactly what he looks like in all movies. Only he has some additional alternatives this time with some things like solar panels on the roof and truck head. Lining everything up to make all six tires laying flat on the ground is quite difficult especially the truck head. It’s easily tilting up a little bit. The massive MechTech weapon can be stored on the back or on the body. Usually I’m picky about disguise in vehicle mode but this weapon I don’t really mind. What makes it bad is the over sized fuel tanks on each side. Don’t know what Hasbro was thinking but they are just way too big. Not really a perfect vehicle mode like Hasbro did on the ROTF leader class or even the Battle Blades version, but at least bearable.
After I showed my son how to proper transform him, my son now has no problem transforming him from vehicle mode to robot mode. Optimus Prime’s robot mode suffers severely under Sailor Moon girl’s syndrome: body is too short, waist is too thin, and legs are too long especially the lower legs. He does have good balance especially now he has some ankle movements but his entire legs still cannot move that much. The two huge fuel tanks are now hanging on his back and that totally looks terrible and surfs no purpose at all. The arms are in very strange design while the two front tires are hanging on the back. If you don’t want to have him in monkey arms, you can twist the arms and hands around but then that will position the tires toward the body which looks even worse. While we all can see the two rear wheels are at his heel, I don’t understand why Hasbro still made the fake tires on each side of the thighs. It just totally doesn’t make any sense. Well, at least the MechTech weapon looks quite nice and I’m comfortable with it being a little bit oversized.
Transformation: 7 – My son is able to transform from vehicle mode to robot mode and half way vice versa. Only the truck head part is not well designed.
Fun: 6 – Truck mode cannot roll well due to the transformation design and robot mode cannot pose well due to body design. Well, at least the weapon is nice. Display: 4 – I won’t say he looks good. Particularly I really don’t like those Sailor Moon girl body structure putting into robot shape like most Japanese cartoon does (Gundam!!! Don’t blame I don’t like you anymore). Value: 3 – Again, I would never purchase this one no matter how cheap he would be. Overall: 4 – After what Hasbro has done so wonderfully on the Battle Blades version, how could they move all the way back to give us this crap? |
