My son got another Optimus Prime from the DOTM line. At least this one is a better toy comparing to the voyager class one. There is really nothing special about Prime’s alt mode in the movie. The special part for this Cyberverse play set is Optimus comes with a trailer which my son is really exciting about. The trailer can be connected to the truck but the connector does not allow rotating. It is still doable with some cutting and Lego piece but I don’t think I will do it on my son’s toy. The truck and trailer all looks good together but the lame part is the trailer’s wheels. It has two nonfunctional wheels and a candy toy quality thing with two wheels and a bar. It doesn’t really roll and I just don’t understand how much more difficult and expensive will be for Hasbro to just add two functional wheels. Cheap and lazy. Optimus’ transformation isn’t that difficult and my son can get a hang of it after several tries. He doesn’t look particular good but for this size of toy, he is okay. The lower legs are bending backward too much and the arm panel does not connect with his body. Color scheme is actually nice and he is surprisingly painted well but missing his famous flame decos. The robot mode is quite poseable and both of his hands can hold Cyberverse accessories. The trailer can be transformed into either weapon platform or battle suit. Comparing to robot, the trailer is actually more difficult to transform. The side panels are just not that easy to rotate and they can be popped off and I found my son struggles with them from time to time. The weapon platform looks good and my son’s favorite mode is the battle suit. My only concerns are Prime’s thumbs while inserting those handles since there are already stress marks. Hopefully they won’t break off. Transformation: 6 – Trailer’s transformation is not really well designed. Even I found myself sometimes have trouble rotating the panels. Fun: 8 – This set has a solid robot mode and truck with trailer mode. The weapon platform and battle suit are fun as well but the trailer’s transformation draws the fun down a little bit. Display: 10 – Besides a toy to my son to play with, this set displays very well and surprisingly Hasbro did a good job on painting him. Value: 10 – Like many of my DOTM purchase this year so I won’t say how and how much. This set is a little bit pricey for its original retail price but if you see a sale and like this set, definitely grab it. Overall: 8 – If Hasbro can do a better job at designing the trailer’s panels rotation and use functional wheels for the trailer, this will be a perfect set. |
