When I asked my son to pick a transformer for his reward of passing his swimming class, he picked Bumblebee again, this time in
the animated line (guess he doesn't quite much like the movie look of activator Bee). Personally I'm not a fan of animated line, but
what can daddy do....................
As my son likes the G1 Bee in that cute little VW Bug (and I quite don't want him to play my henkei one), this animated Bumblebee
is the best representative to represent the cute G1 style little car, in the concept form. Besides the look of cheap plastic and paint
jobs, the car looks pretty good, just don't look from the bottom. It is solid and rolls pretty well and can handle some weight
presure from the top. A bar on the back can move up and down to provide the transformation and space for the robot mode, but
interestingly in the car mode it looks like the trunk can be opened and the space can be put in some small stuffs. He has two
rockets that can be attached on the rear windows and can provide like power boosters.
Transformation isn't difficult but kind of tricky in the beginning since the rear windows have to move first to privide space for the
body movement. And the roof can pop up easily if not moving carefully and properly. Since Bumblebee shares the similar
transformation scheme like Lockdown, his robot mode is pretty tall and easy to grab for a child. His robot mode is cute and quite
simple. All parts are solid except the split car roof now hanging on the back of his legs. His limbs movement is okay but the arms
and shoulders are limited due to the car parts. Typical for Bumblebee, he lacks any type of weapons. The only thing he has in this
mode is the combined energon drill from each arm but good enough for my son. The rocket boosters are now on his back which
looks like can provide him high jump or hanging time. Since he has a big feet and light body, he has no balance issues at all.
Transformation: 6 - A kids friendly look of a toy but not so kids friendly on the transformation, especially extremely tricky when
changing back to the car mode. All because of that bar.
Fun: 10 - My son has fun with him in both modes. That's all I care about.
Display: 7 - He looks cute in either modes. Only if ignore the look of plastic and paint jobs.
Value: 4 - As TFA line is already over, he still costs $12.99 at TRU.
Overall: 7 - He lacks wide range of arm movements and any meaningful weapons. But he is easily a kid's favorite by his look
and name.
