If you have read this, you would have known I'm very pleased with the movie activators. Always wanted to add another one for my son but
couldn't decide which until I saw the product images of the movie activators second wave. My son likes to play with my leader Starscream but sometimes frustrated with its size and complexity. Now this activator might fulfill his needs. Smaller size, easy to transform, screen accurate, there you go, his 2010 Christmas gift. Starscream's F-22 Raptor mode is okay. Robot kibbles can be easily seen from the side and bottom but due to Starscream's original complex design and it is designed for a simple toy, this is forgivable and I can't use this to compare with voyager or leader class. The landing gears aren't really wheels so he can't roll on the floor. His paint jobs is excellent and his shape is also super deformed (SD) to be kids friendly. Transformation is the same, you push the button and it will do almost 90% for you. But unlike Bumblebee, Starscream's button is not so sensitive. Sometimes have to press several times and squeeze the figure a little bit to activate the transformation. Changing back to jet mode is slightly easier than Bumblebee since my son can do by himself as he still has troubles with Bumblebee, guess it's because of the activate button on Starscream's is less sensitive than Bumblebee's. The robot mode is also super deformed and he looks cute, but surprisingly screen accurate and well detailed. Joints are tight and the chicken legs can hold his body well (beaming at leader class). Besides the legs are lack of more flexible movement, especially knee and ankle, he has quite decent poseability. The arms are fully movable and more importantly, he has wrist joint. Yes, wrist joint which the leader class is lack of (beaming at leader class again). Also because of his transformation, the shoulder is spring loaded to move up that he can easily make some hilarious head scratching move and also finally no more monkey arms. Transformation: 2 - One (or actually couple or more) button press down, the transformation is almost done. Fun: 10 - Easy transformation, well articulated, head scratching pose, Japanese money cat pose, he is fun. Display: 7 - Jet mode isn't that much but robot mode is better with many poses. Value: 8 - Don't quite remember but think I got him $9.99 at Target. Anyway, he is worth at the retail price money. Overall: 9 - A nearly perfect fun toy. Only if his button activator is more sensitive, he will be great. |
