Ironhide (ROTF Legend)
I never thought about getting more movie legend toys since some of them totally failed, plus I’m never a fan of movie Ironhide’s design. Then due to a recent purchase that landed me a bag of mixed toys with very cheap price, I got this RTOF legend class Ironhide. And yet again he approves I’m right.
Ironhide’s alternate mode is what he looks like in the moive, a truck. The guns are placed on the truck bed along with his hands hanging there. The biggest failure is the gap on the grill is too large that makes look very bad. He rolls okay, though.
Ironhide’s robot mode is even worse. Besides he looks terrible, the shoulders cannot move back and forth but only swinging left and right. Only elbows and bend forward but that only makes him look like a cowboy dueling. Legs are a little bit short and now knee joints.
Fun: 4 – I don’t know. I still can’t find any. Let me see if my son or daughter can have fun or not.
Display: 2 – The truck mode doesn’t look good because of the kibbles and gap. The robot mode is just lame. Value: 5 – Even too cheap to count like Sideswipe, I still don’t consider he worth any purchase. Overall: 3 – I shouldn’t say he is totally a waste of plastic but he is very close. At least he mixes well with other legend class. Megatron (RTS Legend)
Honestly I didn’t expect getting this figure but who knows, I found it in the discount store Marshalls.
Purely this is G1 Megatron. His alternate mode is the Walther P38 handgun. Besides the tip is in orange due to safety law (but I painted it all to silver), this is a perfectly made handgun. Really, a perfect flawless G1 Megatron alt mode. The handle us somewhat thick but still able to be held by Unicron, and this looks way cool when Unicron is holding him.
Transformation is easy. Hey! This is legend class we are talking about here. Megatron’s robot mode is just fantastic. Totally G1. Legs are fully moveable and arms are nice except lacking the elbow joints. If he could have a rotatable head, this could be a perfect of the perfect toy.
Fun: 10 – Totally G1. The gun, the robot, there is nothing to picky about.
Display: 10 – In a gun, in Unicron’s hand, in robot, he all looks fantastic. Value: 10 - $3.99 from Marshalls. Perfect. Overall: 10 – Can you image the best G1 Megatron is in legend class? I know Hasbro is not gonna make any gun toy besides the nerf gun, but think about how good he can be in this is moved to a voyager class. Optimus Prime (RTS Legend) When G1 style RTS legend class figures came out in 2011, they don’t sell in big name retails but directly to discount stores. For the entire series, I only picked up what I really want the most, G1 Megatron. Rest? No, I passed them all. Later Trailbreaker is an extra kind of bonus. Now time passed by, a year later my son broke his sister’s ROTF legend Prime and a replace was needed. While I’m not really interested in getting another same toy, I thought about this RTS legend Prime. Believing my daughter will like it and with some luck, I found one. Since this series is purely G1, Optimus Prime’s alternate mode is where he started, the truck we all know. It looks kind of cute and actually designed very well. Only when I found one two of the wheels are fake and molded in, I was disappointed. Everything else is fine. And since my daughter isn’t bothered by the rub stickers, I’m not going to change it as well. Transformation is easy enough and Optimus turned out pretty good. Due to transformation he has elbow joints which is nice. Legs are pretty sturdy and provide him good balance. The blue on his legs and head are too dark in my taste but I don’t fuzzy on that. Overall, I think if you need a small size G1 Prime, this is the best you can get. Fun: 10 – Kids have a lot of fun and it is a Prime. Display: 8 – Besides the wheels hanging underneath the arms, he looks pretty good in both modes. Value: 8 - $7.49 shipped from eBay, a pretty good deal I think. Overall: 9 – Like Megatron, a very good G1 incarnation in this small size toy. Sideswipe (ROTF Legend)
I never thought about getting more movie legend toys since some of them totally failed. Then due to a recent purchase that landed me a bag of mixed toys with very cheap price, I got this red RTOF legend class Sideswipe. And I was very surprised.
Sideswipe’s alternate mode is exactly like his deluxe class, a Corvette Stingray, only in red which is officially Sideswipe’s main color. This little car is just perfect. Joint lines aren’t that obvious and no robot kibbles showing.
After a very easy transformation, gosh, I have to say his robot mode looks great. The red works perfectly on him. Legs and arms work well and he even has pseudo knees. Sideswipe’s biggest failure is using wheels as his feet but because of an extra piece here (which is the extended grill), he balances well.
Fun: 10 – A very nice little car with very nice robot mode to play with.
Display: 7 – I have to say red really works better on him than his official silver. But he is too bland and needs more detailing. Value: 10 – Too cheap to count. Overall: 9 – Truly he is a really surprise for me. I never put my eyes on any of Sideswipe’s legend class but this one is certainly great. Only he lacks a little bit more details to be perfect. Sparkcrusher (ROTF Legend)
First of all, I really don’t know who Sparkcrusher is. He does not have any cartoon background, nor in comics. All I know when I got this figure is he is a repaint of Universe legend class Warpath, not perfect but a wonderful small toy.
The alternate mode is a H-tank. Main gun can lift up and down but the turret cannot rotate. Also the turret does not peg or click on any places so it’s a little bit loose. After an easy transformation, the robot mode is fairly nice. The main gun can push into the chest to secure the place of head. Arms are quite movable but legs are lacking knee joints. Am I asking too much for a legend class toy?
Fun: 10 – I think he is fun in either mode.
Display: 8 – He has enough details for this small size but color may need improvement. Value: 10 – Got him from a mix of bag. Too cheap to count. Overall: 9 – A fairly nice toy. Not asking for more joints but at least a place to secure the turret in tank mode will make him better. Spiral (mini-con)
I once thought there would be potentials for mini-cons but then lost my interest on them pretty fast. Kids like small figures so if there are good legend/scout class figures or even the old mini-cons, I will still get for them. And this, mini-con street speed team Spiral is a toy I got together with a dirt cheap broken RiD leader class Ultra Magnus. Spiral’s alternate mode is a Mercedes C-Class luxury car. He is in navy blue and this car mode totally remained me of DOTM Que even though this toy released several years before the movie. It looks nice and rolls nice. There are many obvious join lines here and there and the pieces couldn’t hold themselves together tightly. Other than these, still a nice little toy car. Transformation is fairly easy but the robot mode looks really bad. First, the chest is just way too huge. Come on! This is no Spychanger Camshaft and the whole proportion looks even worse. Arms is poseable but the elbow joints are there for look. The elbow joint cannot really bend but only a little angle. If you bend more, the forearm will pop off. If they don’t want to let the elbow band, why not just make it in on piece so can eliminate some of the bad join lines in the vehicle mode. The legs are fine but the panels at the back acting like heels sometimes don’t hold well. Overall, using Makeshift comparing to Spiral, Makeshift is a much better toy. Fun: 8 – Kids have fun with him but I see he isn’t the favorite. Display: 5 – Car mode is okay but with too many join lines and robot mode looks not that well. Value: 10 – Dirt cheap together with RID Ultra Magnus from Goodwill. Overall: 6 – Not a good mini-con as we’ve seen the good one, but worth a keep. Trailbreaker (RTS Legend) We all know how Hasbro named their toys but seriously, this is Trailbreaker, not Trailcutter. A fine character that has long forgotten by Hasbro since G1 cartoons. Anyway, finally, there is a toy, but a small legend class.
Trailbreaker’s alternate mode is a camper truck, just like he was in the cartoon. Nice little car only the color is too bland. After simple transformation, the robot mode is also just like his g1 look, only chunkier but thin from the side. Still quite bland in color scheme but at least he just looks right like G1 Trailbreaker.
Fun: 6 – Truck mode is okay and so is robot mode.
Display: 6 – Colors are just too bland and I don’t know if I want to spend my efforts on a legend class. Value: 10 - #3.00 from Marshalls. Never thought I would get him actually. Overall: 7 – He isn’t a must buy and cannot compare to Megatron. But he serves his purpose as a long gone Trailbreaker and only we need is a deluxe class. |
