Ratchet

I’ve wanted a classics Ratchet badly. Hated the movie design, Animated one isn’t right, the X-Brawn repaint is lame, and hunting for the aftermarket Ratchet now is so tough. Kre-O set is fun but I don’t plan on putting too much investment in them. Since Ratchet is one of the few Kre-O sets that looks so nice in bot mode, I’m thinking about getting him but only if I can find one. Then I saw the ads for TRU’s buy one get one 50% off sale, I decided to take the chance to drive far. Yes, I found and got him.

Ratchet contains 187 pieces, much more than the previous sets that I owned. As usual, Ratchet’s alternate mode is an ambulance and man, this vehicle looks nice. Unlike Jazz’s miserable looking rubber tires, Ratchet’s tires are in plastic but they do look better. The car is very stable that no pieces are easily falling off. The back doors can be opened and you can store many things in the car. There are also many accessories for mini figures to use or you can hook them on the vehicle side. Speaking about mini figures, the two mini figures are designed nicely. Skip the human, Ratchet is just so G1. Only his helmet is too low so if you want to see his eyes, you have to raise the helmet a little bit. Mini Ratchet can drive himself but there isn’t too much space for him. Overall, an excellent vehicle mode accompanying with two mini figures and many accessories, this set provides many play values instead of just a car or display piece.

Now tear him apart and rebuild him into robot mode. I’ll have to admit, Ratchet’s robot mode is purely excellent. Unlike many other figures that are using movie style body with a G1 cartoon head (yes Bee, especially you), Ratchet is so G1 from head to toe. He is quite tall and almost as tall as MP Grimlock. He has all the necessary joints so he is very poseable. The knees are not in that super tight ball joint so some poses are limited due to the weight but he can pose up some amazing poses even many toys cannot do. He pretty much has no kibbles on his body that are easily popping off so very easily play with. The fist hole looks like standard but after I tried out some weapons from toher transformers, it is actually slightly bigger that the weapons are quite loose in his hands. He has only one piece left after built in robot mode but I can use coupl pieces from his body to build a small pistol for him.

Transformation: 0 – This is BUILD Transformers, maybe I should just remove this rating.
Fun: 10 – More pieces but won’t take you too long to have fun in either modes.
Display: 10 – He looks so nice in both modes. Trust me, I almost want to display him with my classics.
Value: 10 – He is only $9.99 after TRU’s buy one get one 50% off. Excellent.
Overall: 10 – The best set I’ve seen so far. Excellent vehicle mode and superb robot mode. I still cannot believe how a brick build robot can be better than regular action figures but this Ratchet achieved that. Despite he cannot transform and a little bit too tall with all the brick knots, I really want to make him fill in the hole of classics Ratchet.
