If you read my Superion review, you pretty much know why I got that figure. Yes, almost for the FanProject upgrade set. After I have put a lot of additional details on Superion, I just have to wait for this after market product. Fortunately I got a pre-order on BBTS for much cheaper price. But unfortunately after almost 4 months, nothing happened. So I started searching again and finally got one. This upgrade set is the first set that FansProject tried on a combiner. The packaging is nice, just like FansProduct style but the instruction is not that well. I actually prefer a paper or a book, something. First, let me try them on all the alternate mode. Just like all other add-on parts, they are all too much additional. Silverbolt now got two huge panels hanging on each wing that makes him look like a carrier. Fireflight has a huge circle radar on top and Sky Dive got nothing but a gun. The best and meaningful are still Air Raid and Airazor which they have additional armors for the wings and additional weapons. To the individual robot mode. Silverbolt still have those two huge panels hanging on the back that looks like wings now. Fireflight’s radar are no where to put but split in half hanging down on each wing. Sky Dive still got nothing but a gun. Yes. Best are still AA brothers. Their legs are beefed up and they are dual barreled. Now is what I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. This Superion with upgrade set just looks great, if he just stand there. He now has wonderfully made feet with slight angle movement. He has a cool visor. He also has new forearms and real hands. But due to shoulder part is reversed, he cannot raise his shoulders to the side but just swinging back and forth. If you treat the “thigh” part as the upper arm, his shoulder can raise but then looks extremely strange because the shoulders are too low. This makes posing his upper body fairly difficult unless you detach Silverbolt’s arm inside to raise it as shoulder joint but that isn’t stable enough. I don’t know why I never notice this while browsing through all the pictures. Somewhat disappointed and looked online for possible solutions, I noticed some fans had twisted the arms around so that pretty much solved the issue. So I tried the same thing and made for my own, it is fantastic. It solved the problem and still looks nice. Only he now has more kibbles hanging on the back of the arm and I much prefer this for more articulations. Less words, let’s just enjoy the pictures. Transformation: 8 – Putting the arm/leg/wing thing onto AA brother’s legs are challenging and can cause stress mark. Otherwise all other parts are fine.
Fun: 10 – Not much on jet mode but they are just additional. AA brother’s robot mode is certainly nice and the Superion part is great. But one thing, how could FansProject gave Bruticus all those super cool weapons but provide Superion with only a pathetic gun that looks like a toy. Display: 10 – Will you display them in individual mode? I think not. Putting him in the combined mode is certainly great. Value: 6 – Occasionally there will always be this kind of banging my head on the wall moment why I didn’t get this whole set (including Superion) earlier when they are much cheaper. Well, guess just live with it because who knows. $94.99 from Toyarena. Overall: 9 – This is FP’s first try on combiner. Honestly it is great and you can’t really compare it to Bruticus. It really turned the original mediocre figure around to make him great. |
