In 2005, a special edition PT Cruiser was named after another famous American road, Route 66.

"Like the historic highway it's named after, the new 2006 Chrysler PT Street Cruiser Route 66 Edition celebrates the journey, as well as the destination," said Jeff Bell, Chrysler vice president. "It's Route 66 personified."

The car is painted in an exclusive Solar Yellow, also used on the brake calipers. Features include solar-tinted sunscreen glass, a liftgate-mounted spoiler, 17-inch all-season performance tires, four-wheel antilock brakes with low-speed traction control, speed control and a sport suspension. Later cars were offered in Midnight Black.

Interior amenities include a six-way power driver seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front side airbags and driver knee airbag, and AM/FM radio with six-disc CD player and MP3 capability.

It is powered by a standard 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 150 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is optional.

A "Street Cruiser" badge is featured on the liftgate; "Route 66" insignias are on the front doors.
