Welcome!

About Psi Chi:

"Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications."
The University of Maryland, College Park chapter of Psi Chi was chartered in 1955, and aims to uphold the ideals set by the national organization.

About Being A Psi Chi Member:

Currently, the chapter meets weekly in the Fall and Spring semesters during the regular school year. The application process takes place throughout the semester and inductions are performed at the end of the semester. Typical events include a Graduate Panel Discussion, Community Service, and other Psychology themed events. Please see our calendar for details.

Induction into Psi Chi provides recognition of academic achievement. Psi Chi members are encouraged to come to the meetings and get involved with the events to obtain knowledge and experience in the field of psychology as well as an active membership. Active members have the privilege of applying for the annual Psi Chi Excellence Award, which is funded by the Mark S. Harper Award. Upon graduation, Psi Chi stoles are available for members. The stole can be ordered through the local chapter or the national website.

Office Hours:

Beginning in the Spring 2011 semester, Psi Chi will be having office hours from 12:00 - 1:00 Mondays through Fridays. This is a great way for students to talk to peer mentors, who are also psychology students, and hear advice and experiences that advising can not offer. No appointment is needed. Come to the Psychology Department's advising office in the Biology-Psychology building in room 1107 and ask about course information, instructor information, or any questions you have about the major.

If you are interested in becoming a peer mentor, application materials may be found in the Forms section of our website.
