Democracy depends on fair elections.A report published Oct 22nd by the Pew Project on the States finds a "perfect storm" may be in the making for Election Day, mixing record turn out with too few poll workers and what Pew discreetly calls "a voting system still in flux." Since 2000, a broad-based movement calling for electoral reform has been growing, but much work remains to be done. “Elections are so mismanaged,” an August 8th, 2008 editorial in the New York Times argues, “that ordinary citizens have to get involved.” Alrighty then.
