ADDENDUM: from James Parker: List of possible projects at Hurricane Creek. Hurricane Creek is in optimal condition right now for use by the Biology Department, and for uses by other departments including the new Appalachian Studies Department at North Georgia College and State University.

The following is a list of items that come to mind that the Biology Department could be involved in by utilizing the existing conditions at Hurricane Creek:

Possible Research Projects on the Hurricane Creek Track Wildlife Conservation Area

WETLANDS RESTORATION PROJECT: (See Sidebar: Restore Wetlands at Hurricane Creek) Including replanting of trees that were removed along with wetlands soil. Remove plastic liners from area.

Organized privet removal

On site location for new Film Studies Department at North Georgia College.
 
Study involving distances traveled by beaver from water to obtain food

Assessment of beaver activity and environmental impact on area

Survey of Mushrooms and other fungi on the area

Survey of Invertebrates on the area

Water quality studies on the river and creek

Study of bottom fauna in river and creek

Study of slime molds on the area

Study of control methods for poison ivy, Japanese honeysuckle, and Chinese privet

Study of pine beetle infestations

Catalog all plants on the area

Monitor movements of box turtles on the area

Establish and monitor an area for native wetland plant species

Survey of lichens & mosses on the area

Study of pink lady slipper orchids on the area

Study of mayapples on the area

Study of club mosses on the area

Study of mole activity on the area

Establish an area for relocation of endangered & threatened native plants

Monitor fish populations in creek & river (2 endangered species)
