In addition to the GIGA network
deployment, project frameworks were built for research in the areas of
Optical Networks and Experimental Telecommunications Services. In this context, research topics were selected and passed out among the participant groups in the Brazilian universities, and then, it was requested that the universities submit the research projects according to the topics provided. The projects were selected in a transparent manner by a Selection Committee consisting of competent authorities and experts, including representatives of FINEP. Thus, CPqD signed 23 research agreements with universities and research institutions. Additionally, RNP coordinated 33 projects with the participation of teams from 45 institutions, in 15 states, in the areas of Advanced Network Management, Real Time Multimedia Applications, Network/Advanced Network Transport Protocols and Large Scale Distributed Applications.
