Gearing

I gave links to some 32p gears in the upgrade parts section of this site, but I never specified what to get.  You can run 32p gears with what ever battery you want, but you might have to swap out a pinion gear if you change packs so that your motor doesn't overheat.  They are the same as the stock gears except that the teeth are thicker so they will last a lot longer and you can run without a gearbox.

As for what gears to get, it's all about the gear ratio, the lower the gear ratio the faster your truck will go, but your motor will get hotter.  It's a balance between speed and motor temperature, if you are wanting to do speed runs, get a 54t spur and a 22t pinion, that is equivalent to a 76t spur and a 31t pinion in 48p gears.  And a 54t spur and an 18t pinion is about equivalent to an 83t spur and a 28t pinion in 48p gears.

To get the gear ratio just use this equation.

 # teeth on spur    x 2.72 = ratio
# teeth on pinion

Example:

For 86/19 gearing

86 x 2.72 = 12.312            So 86/19 gearing has a Ratio of  12.312

19

And to calculate what gearing you should use, just use the following equation

Spur Gear = 54t
Pinion Gear = xt

# teeth on pinion x 54 = x
 # teeth on spur

Example:

If I have a set of 48p gears that I want to convert to an equivalent set of 32p gears, I look at the gears I have now (let's say a 76t spur and a 23t pinion), I just plug them into the equation and I get my new pinion gear value I can use with a 54t spur.

23 x 54 = 16.342
76

So I will get a 54t spur and a 16t pinion.
