Erin's Trip Talk - When: The trip starts usually right after spring semester (end of june to end of july) - Where: We stay in a hostel within walking distance of the tourist area in Puno. - Costs: The hostel roughly costs about $10 a night so its about $300 for our stay. Food costs are as cheap/expensive as you want but in general it's much cheaper than eating out in the US. - What: Everyday we go to the Puno Regional hospital to shadow Drs in the morning (8am-12pm). This time is used for personal learning, to form relationships with the staff/community, and to learn about the healthcare system in Puno. So far we've made a lot of contacts from the shadowing we've done in the hospital, for example Dr. Ivan. Through Dr. Ivan we also learn and work with the med-students. Last year we went to an orphanage and the old folks home as well. - Other: APEPCO is the student journalist/advocacy group we met. What now? Establish and work on our own projects. Work with other groups already there. Tyler's Plan - Going to Peru in January to scope out the Old Folk's home for a few weeks, then he is going to the countryside to hang.
