The amazing group that we have in Puno right now has made some incredible progress on the clean-burning stove project, a major focus of this year's trip. This is a huge step in our work with the community in the alitplano countryside! You can see the updated blog post here, and the photo album of the project here. |

Thanks for the update Erin! You can find the newest post here about their arrival, and I'm sure new posts will be coming soon about the jet stove project, working on the Old Folks' Home, and working with the kids. |

Last time I was in Puno, Dr. Ivan invited me to give a lecture to the med students on a topic related my undergraduate thesis focus: the stomach bacteria Helicobacter pylori. It was definitely a challenge since it was all in Spanish, but still a lot of fun. In any case, I just wanted to post the flyer they made for it for records' sake...here it is:

I tried to keep track of the slang I noticed while in Peru, and most of what I've noted it used in Puno as well. Attached is a PDF of my fairly bulky list.

As the trip is approaching, I realized it would be really helpful to compile a list of words or phrases pertinent to our projects that I wish I had known previously. It is open to edit to anyone, and it is certainly incomplete, so I hope the people traveling down this summer and past members can add to it! Here's the report that Pat Milligan's engineering group put together for their joint project with Project Suyana. It's very detailed and clearly outlines the benefits of the jet stove vs open fire. It will also be published in high quality in the Digital Library. Thanks guys! |

Thanks to Zac for putting this together. Awesome ideas, and we should discuss this in the future.
